Limits to Growth
This Mitchell Whitelaw piece is intriguing for a number of reasons. Obviously the basic aesthetic appeal is there but the fact that it's generated by a program called Processing is what caught my eye. The software itself describes itself in a rather vague way:Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions. It is used by students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool.Great. Too bad there are no screenshots of the actual application and the API just verifies that it's some sort of C++ style language.
Long story short, the work of art is computer generated - assumingly from real data. You can view other iterations of the generation here.
