ONCE (movie)

Over the weekend I caught the new John Carney film Once. I hadn't even seen the trailer before heading into the movie but multiple people had told me that if you're a fan of music, you must see this movie. It's a sweet story of a down and out Irish guy (Glen Hansard of The Frames) finding a connection with a Czech immigrant (Marketa Irglova) through songwriting and playing music. Many reviews have touted it as a "modern day musical" and that's really not an inappropriate description - as a majority of the emotional and character revelations are expressed purely through the music they are playing. Overall I'd say it's best as a date movie but anyone that enjoys a little drama mixed with some great music will enjoy the film.
