The Past! The Past!

Last night I caught the final showing of Guy Maddin's latest work - Brand Upon The Brain! and enjoyed it quite a bit. His film making style is unlike anything else in the current film making world. It's refreshing to see someone recreate the lo-fi aesthetic of early filmmaking with a bit more updated technology (though it's all still done practically as far as I can tell). After having seen this and The Saddest Music in the World I am convinced that Guy Maddin needs to enter into my top list of directors to consume all their works.
