Next Big Nashville

Next Big Nashville
One week from today will mark the beginning of the 2nd annual burgeoning music festival known as Next Big Nashville. While certainly not as extensive in scope as SXSW or CMJ it gives a giant collective of Nashville artists a chance to showcase their talents in a short span of time. The schedule has been released and, as you can see, it's a ton of music. Janet at Out The Other has been interviewing and featuring bands, Nashville Cream will be doing so as well.

So, I will be featuring a couple local noteworthy bands during the next week or so in hopes to get people out to shows. Added to that, I have been given the go ahead to give away some wristbands to the event - basically a free pass to any of the shows for the entire time. More on that later.

Up first, SJ & The Props. Five guys, four ladies, a ton of instruments and a dash of soul. The only release available thus far is the Tragedy EP and the promise of a triple disc full-length in the future. Overall it's a nice varietal mix of rock, gospel, soul, bluegrass and the tiniest bit of more electronic elements involving plenty of guitar, big drums, organ and horns. The band will be playing Thursday, September 6th at The End as part of the Grand Palace showcase. If you're only prone to download one of these tracks I highly suggest getting "Tragedy" - seems the most accessible to those who appreciate the upbeat styles of Avett Brothers, Blitzen Trapper and their ilk.
