Frank Chimero : The States

The ongoing project The States by Frank Chimero is one of those brilliantly simple ideas that works more effectively than you could possibly imagine. Someone describing an art piece that depicts the State of California as a snubbed out cigarette or the State of Texas as a western shirt blowing in the wind doesn't sound like it would be necessarily be the greatest of projects but, turns out, it is undeniably fantastic. The execution works best when the representation has something vaguely to do with the represented state (i.e. Western Shirt / Texas vs Tennessee as Graphics Card?) but all of the illstrations are worth peeking at.

And then when you are done with that there is a whole giant portfolio of other equally great works from Mr. Chimero. I love the Greatest Hits package and am now seriously considering buying The Small Print Book.
