Weekend Roundup

Weekend
The last few days were one incredible weekend. Many great times were experienced at the wedding of Chad Pugh - including, but not limited to, hanging out with Ryan and Malisa, Casey Pugh, Bryan Pugh, Paul Bullock and a host of others.

That was followed up with one quality cookout for the celebration of JB's birthday which included an innumerable amount of good times.

All that being said, I had a great weekend but pretty much neglected being on the computer entirely. Good for me, bad for blogging fodder. I'll be back with more goods in the coming days while I catch up.

The Man In The Sea

Main the Sea
Yesterday I posted about a great site and then come to find out that it was created by The Man In The Sea, a one man design operation for Matthew Spiel. Take a look through the portfolio and you'll encounter a number of great items. I particularly enjoy those involving the textured illustrations.

The Great Bearded Reef

Bearded Reef
What's the best way to win a contest for a job as an Island Caretaker? Create a simple, yet impressive, website for yourself of course. The illustration style is top notch and the "diving" transitions are perfectly appropriate. Sadly, it appears that the finalists for the contest are already announced - and Josh Willis does not appear to be one. At least he got a Grade A site out of it.

Owl Foreigner

Owl Foreigner
I love a good, random, Flickr photostream. I'm happy to report that owl foreigner is currently filling that void. It has everything you could want - fantasy, drama, bearded space exploration, baby animals, crystal diaramas of actual buildings - and that's just the first three pages at a glance.

Chris Bettig: The Mountain Label

Richie
I try to keep the beard related posts here at yewknee to a minimum (as not to pigeon hole myself) but occasionally there's an item that comes my way that can't be ignored. This Richie Tenenbaum Laser Engraved Wood Figure is a joy on so many levels. I love the line style and the fact that it's laser engraved.. I am sure it's even impressive in real life. It's also a great gateway to discover more great works from Christopher Bettig - aka The Mountain Label.

A Quick Yeard

While he didn't say a whole lot during Whiskerino it is undeniable that Will can grow a helluva yeard (that's Year + Beard).

99 Bricks

99 Bricks
Not that anyone needs a distraction on a Monday morning but, if you do, I suggest playing 99 Bricks for awhile. It's a simple twist on the standard Tetris setup, only instead of stacking blocks to remove lines you are stacking blocks for the sake of building the tallest stack (ultimate goal: use all 99 pieces). It's not so challenging at first but when you start to encounter "building sway" you know you're in for it.

Build A Beard

Build A Beard
Despite being inundated with beard paraphernalia on a regular basis there is an occasional item that rolls along worth mentioning. Build A Beard is a simple concept - download one of their fake beards, print it out, take a photo of yourself with it and email them. If it just stopped there I wouldn't bother mentioning it but the founders of the workshop are donating $1 into a Kiva account on your behalf - just for submitting a faux beard shot. Very admirable.

Internet Landfill

More crap to look at! Well, not so much "crap" but just "stuff you might find interesting."

A Milestone (Sort of)

10,000
This post marks a bit of a milestone for my web posting endeavors; 10,000 posts. In the spirit of full disclosure here are the stats: In celebration of this I've now opened up the archives - you can step back week by week and experience all 390 pages of terribly written blog posts from the past 7 years.

I've also opened up the Music archive that shows all the little mini-reviews of albums I've purchased through the years. Due to a major MySQL error many years ago alot of the Date Added information was lost but that's neither here nor there.

So, that's it. A little pat on the back for myself. 10,000 posts and lots of embarrassing misuse of the English language. Thanks for reading.. as I obviously wouldn't continue doing this if I didn't have a readership of some sort.

Summer Mix Series Thanks

Summer Mix Series
So I was checking the stats on the Summer Mix Series and it is, apparently, getting more traffic and referrals than I imagined. Many thanks to the following: I'm guessing that La Blogotheque post got some French interest because now the site has a handful of french mixes. Nice!

I realize the Summer Mix Series is overwhelming but if you need suggestions, feel free to ask.
