bow man

Much time was spent playing Bow man.. especially fun with two players, variable wind, and a wall to cross (also impossible).

hot design links

posted May 27, 2004 #

Some hot design links (I really don't post those as much as I should anymore): Pony Girl 71 - some good works in here, nice interface, I could do without the constant "bullet" hole in whatever I click.

Elevate VC - portfolio of Jake Stutzman. I like the interface and the apparent dynamic elements to it all. Tops.

Polaroid Scene - I swear I logged this a long time ago, or possibly did some update for IMA Robot involving it but I never gave it an in-depth look... seems well worth a time investment.

soda, sodi, pop, coke, other

posted May 27, 2004 #

Now this is the kind of hardcore data I like seeing researched! Pop? Coke? Soda? Other? Find out what regions generically refer to soft drinks in what way.. strangely, Alaska is the most diverse. Why does anyone call it Pop? What about Phosphor? I want to start telling people I am going to snag a frosty phosphor.

Kerry is a Douche Bag

posted May 27, 2004 #

Seeing that my last two quasi-political posts have garnered 30 some odd comments I figure I might as well bore full on into the issue at hand. Basically, you need to visit John Kerry Is A Douche Bag But I'm Voting For Him Anyway (dot com) to understand where I'm coming from. While I don't really think Kerry is a douche bag, it's just the lesser of two evils - one being evil incarnate (that would be Bush.. and yes, I realize that's a bit extreme) and one with his mind in the right place but still ultimately a politician. Please do some research and read up on issues outside of this "war" on Iraq regarding Bush - his denial of the Kyoto treaty, the deficit that he created after we were in at an all time surplus, the lack of jobs, the tax cuts that corporations are allowed to benefit from, and just a ton more.

If you hate trying to keep up with all this stuff, just bookmark Killing Goliath, read their amusing and informative posts and feel free to make some debate - those guys are really good about having an open forum.

So how do I counteract a post so serious in nature? Do I need to post porn links or something of that nature to keep the status quo?

supersize me - nixed

posted May 27, 2004 #

With a little bit of research, you can discover that Viacom isn't too far removed from McDonalds.. but it's still a bit baffling to me that MTV and VH1 (Viacom companies) would refuse to show commercials for Supersize Me. Are healthier non-McDonalds eating teens less likely to sit at home and watch TV and therefore not see the proper advertisements?

coolfer crunches the numbers

posted May 26, 2004 #

I'm hoping not to start a hotbed of comment based debate like the last time I posted something mildly political - but Coolfer has done some research with some interesting outcomes.. musicians love Democrats and CEO's love Republicans. Surprise! Okay, that's not entirely true as lots of CEO's were supporting Democrats according to Fundrace, but Sony Music, Clear Channel, and the RIAA were doin their best to back up Dubya. The best little nugget to come out of all that research - flag waving super patron Toby Keith hasn't donated a thing.

Contraband

posted May 26, 2004 #

The site design and work at Contrabrand has a little bit of everything that I enjoy, without going overboard by having too many ingredients working together at once. A difficult task to achieve. Link via Squidfingers.

inside Gordon

posted May 26, 2004 #

Has everyone seen Inside Gordon? Electron Beam Tomography scanner that generates a 3D render of your body, bones, organs, whatever. I can't begin to describe how insane that technology is. Link via Cool Hunting.

calendar

I need to setup a calendar for my site so I remember to attend things like public speakings by David Sedaris. I'd hate to miss that.

refund beyotch

posted May 26, 2004 #

According to Duncan and the State of Tennessee, residents of TN who have paid sales tax to their ISP since Dec 1, 2000 are entitled to a refund. So far I've yet to discover what needs to be submitted in your written request for monies owed, but still seems like a decent deal to get in on (as it is money that you are owed).

Jenny Lewis

posted May 26, 2004 #

I was going to make comment that some of the photography by Jenny Lewis (via List) reminds me of the output of a LOMO but then I went back and looked again and I was just tricked by the saturation. Either way, some good stuff in there - and if you're a fan of UK artists you'll find some treats like Morrissey hangin tough with the Libertines.

Gondry and Black?

Michel Gondry and Jack Black to work together on a sci-fi thriller adaptation of Master of Space and Time by Rudy Rucker? Definetly sounds a bit crazy...

for fun or science?

So is the wireless pill camera for fun or science? I'd love to see a class full of children feast upon these things and rejoice in the wonders of both fun and science.

Lantern Waste Company

posted May 25, 2004 #

The new site for Lantern Waste Company has launched. It appears to have alot more automation now, so you can probably look forward to newer works being added in a timely fashion. And it's got a log now, so you've got a new bookmark to add - Lee should bring the goods (no pressure). The galleries of works are impressive as always.. I especially enjoy the WOCA gallery, that camera can seemingly do no wrong.

TENT city

It wouldn't be a good link day without something stolen from Slatch.. so go check out the trailer for the new AntiHero skatemovie Tent City. The Super-8 look makes it that much better.

If you've not joined the ranks of loyal Drink on the Job readers you are missing out... The documention of Jeremy's trip to Chicago is chalk full of everything you should get from road trip documentation - random driving shots, awkward pictures of people he hung out with, strangely alluring landmarks, art, and japanese yearbooks with insane photos.
