Monster

I'm a little shocked by the fact that this movie exists. There is already a great documentary about Aileen Wuornos, so I'm a bit surprised that someone has decided to take her story, throw Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci into the mix, and present their own take on how things went down. Judging from the trailer they are more than likely going to villanize her (she did admit to the killings).. I think I'd rather just stick with the documentary and make up my own mind on what went down instead of having Hollywood present it to me. If you get a chance, check out this film.. pretty interesting stuff.

Here's another article of high interest. Calvin & Hobbes creator Bill Watterson has pretty much disappeared since he stopped creating the strip and this article gives a little insight into his career and what he may possibly be up to now. Link via Nick.

CHUD has a look at the promotional posters for the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind movie (the Charlie Kaufman / Michael Gondry collaboration). Fairly cool concept.

bloody advertisements

I know it's corny, but this brings new meaning to the phrase "Bloody advertisements" (especially when read in a British accent).

good idea

I have to admit, that this actually sounds like a decent way for labels to bypass the ever growing "epidemic" of copying CDs. Instead of making it impossible to play in computers, just pack it with extra content on a seperate DVD layer. More for the consumer, and according to the article it's "impossible" to duplicate. I doubt it, but it sounds like a good idea.

Mac Premo

Reminiscent of the classic Beast, check out Mac Premo.. only with a bit more of a hand created feel.. not all digital manipulation. Warning on the load time.. seems to take quite awhile.

Be sure to check out the portfolio of Andrew Rae - specifically the "Perverted Science Flyers," though the whole portfolio is great.

Longhorn

posted December 2, 2003 #

It's always interesting to check out the progress of the forthcoming Windows upgrades. As always, I'm very hesitant and skeptical of upgrading my machine's OS.. I ended up really enjoying XP, but I've got some questions about "Longhorn" and it's hardware management / built in DRM for everything. I know it's inevitable, but maybe I'll wait till the undeniable hack is out to even consider upgrading. Link via MacNews.

a simple life

posted December 2, 2003 #

I unfortunately just witnessed an advertisement for the forthcoming FOX reality series A Simple Life. Now, I can maybe, possibly, somewhat understand people wanting to see some random people thrown into a deserted area of the wilderness and told to survive, or maybe even a group of people locked up in a house and told to get along, or maybe even a group told to do and eat disgusting things... these are all situations uncommon in the regular world. You don't typically find people making heat with fires, capturing their every movement on closed caption tv, or eating meal worms.. but taking two people from the "big city" and throwing them into a "country" situation for entertainment purposes is just asinine. Seriously, I hope the people that watch that show realize that it may be funny to watch the two rich girls squirm in this "awkward" environment, but the fact of the matter is the viewers themselves are being mocked. Hahaha, look at the working class of America! Putting on costumes for Sonic!? Inseminating cattle so they reproduce to put food on the table?! Hahaha, Middle Class America is just a bunch of suckers! Why isn't everyone born with a trust fund and a misunderstanding of what it is to earn your keep.

Yea, it sounds like I'm on some high horse and rant because of some reality show but I'm just constantly apalled at what people find to be entertainment.

Spray Baby

What impresses me the most about this sort of thing is not neccasarily the stencil (though it is nice), nor the speed of execution, but the fact that it's being done in broad daylight. I guess if you act like nothing's wrong with what you're doing, noone else will either.

the internet can be beautiful

Apparently the Internet can be beautiful in more ways than one. The strangest part about the results is that it seems to resemble a galatic star system of sorts.. without knowing what it was mapping out, one might guess it was some sort of higher thinking star map.

MP3 Heads up: Download the new Abandoned Pools song "Tighter Noose." You might also want to grab the other b-side, remix, and acoustic songs that are up there too.. but the new song is the point here.

The Annual Foot In Mouth award has been presented for 2003 to none other than Donald Rumsfeld. The quote that wins him the prize is absolutely hysterically ridiculous. Thanks KG.

I hope the guys who developed Super Mario Bros 3 never see this video. Imagine working on a video game with a team of coders, for probably over a year, so that someone could eventually bypass your hard labor in under 12 minutes. Nuts.

The Silent Uproar Top 10 of 2003 is coming soon, but I'm having the damndest time figuring out what it is that I am to include on my list. There have been some great releases this year, but I'm too damn picky to just pick anything kind of quality.. I want my list to be great. If you had to make a Top 5 list of favorite releases this year, what would it be?
