sibhod

posted July 2, 2003 #

It's temporary, and it's a taste that more things are to come - but the quick sibhod splash is so amazingly 80's metal it makes my day. Gimme a desktop of that!

perfect!

posted July 2, 2003 #

Big thanks to Kurt for this inside info about the late Strom Thurmond. Apparently the notoriously racist segrationist had a black daughter... perfect. I don't understand that whole "lashing out against something you are fascinated by because of fear" but I suppose it's fairly common.

2 sites

posted July 2, 2003 #

2 sites: Peter Joel's Skew - logo distortion on the fly. Pretty snutty.

Fabris Lane - really well designed sunglasses site. Check the FreeRange section - that bubble mask thing is great.. good transitions, nice photos, very nice site.

iced tea?!?

The most hardcore ice tea site ever. If that commercial intro is for real.. well. I'm without words. The site is bizarre.. probably doesn't help that I can't read a word of it.

big ass blog

posted July 1, 2003 #

Alright, loads of work today so I'll have to make my posts into one huge large log as much as I can in one post to provide entertaining links but not so much that I can't get my work done style post. So.. here we go:

YouWorkForThem Commercials - Bizarre stylings, smooth illustrations, quirky sound. Rad as usual.

Narnia movie? Yet another book that does not need to be made into a movie - CGI Aslan does not sound good.

This is me. Sad isn't it?

Subdisc brings the goods with it's CD style interface. I love the transitions here.. simple but engaging.

BodyTag has so much going on I'll never get through it all. Stuff like this makes me brain gel into a warm goo.

the615 was linked on surfstation. Wish it had a hotter design (no offense Jamie, I'm just bored with what is there).

Broken - not a ton of stuff here but slightly amusing contradictions and just plain stupid signage.

Somehow I never saw (or forgot about) this gallery of images. Looks like a good time.

So much good stuff at Wooster you wouldn't believe me if I tried to tell you. This tickles my fancy.

Katsuo Design - illustration goodness.

Scott already filled me in on The Directors Label, but now you can have the skinny as well.

I wanna hate on The Punisher so hard (c'mon, what a weak character.. and hasn't the entertainment industry picked up on the fact that they are going to catch major flack for promoting such intense gun violence? I mean, the guy just goes out and kills people.. he's not exactly the wholesome hero), but Hi-Res made the site.. so I have to give props. Loads of rad textures and layered animations.

Sheesh, show some examples.

Alright, I feel like I'm going overboard. That should tide you people over. Back to the grind...

YOTR tour

Hrm.. Year Of The Rabbit is actually coming to Nashville (the Exit In). Someone, somewhere, in Nashville started paying attention recently.. and I like it.

new VAST

posted June 30, 2003 #

Even though I was under the impression that VAST was going to be giving away tracks on their site.. it seems I was wrong. You can order their album Turquoise - Version 3.X for $3. Not a bad deal, but also not the final versions of the songs. I'll let you know how it is.. I spent my 3 bucks.

new LUCA

Sweet.. new Luca soon. Exciting.

settlement

posted June 30, 2003 #

Can someone (Dolan?) explain to me how this CD settlement changed anything? I'll be happy to get my check for $12.63 - but it's not like I've seen CD prices drop recently or anything. So if the big corps got in trouble for price fixing, isn't this just going to happen again?

ICQ/AIM

posted June 30, 2003 #

Remember those people who refused to let go of ICQ even though AIM became the standard for online messaging? Well, now you can talk to them again. And ask them what their problem is? Link via dbox.

comcast

posted June 30, 2003 #

I'm back to being a Comcast internet subscriber. I loved my DSL but this should cut back on bills. So if you only had my home phone number, you're about to be S.O.L. cause the phone gets cut off tomorrow morning. Fortunately, this means my shoutcast radio stream from home can return - and it's goood.

thwart spam bots

posted June 29, 2003 #

I have been told that some people have "harvestor" bots that scour the web looking for email addresses to spam. I assume this to be true. However, what's the best prevention method on this? Use a javascript to join the username and domain? Use simple HTML code markup to disguise the @ symbol within the source? I'm interested in everyone's solution to this problem (other than making Spam illegal, or very costly).

eels - kcrw

posted June 28, 2003 #

Listening to The Eels on KCRW. Hopefully that insanely long URL works - if not, just goto KCRW and do a "Find It!" for Eels.

fo real?

posted June 28, 2003 #

If the National Do Not Call Registry is for real.. sign me up! Actually I don't get that many calls as it is but a government sanctioned rule against it would be great. Now how about a "National Do Not Spam" Registry?

pixelsurgeon

posted June 27, 2003 #

The new Pixelsurgeon is quite nice. Very clean, very usable - but be prepared for a slammed server.

planz

posted June 27, 2003 #

Looks like Pitchfork went and got themselves an office space and plans to step things up to the "next level." Very interesting.

nino - werd up

posted June 26, 2003 #

Big thanks to Nino for the heads up about my flash content links opening in a new window. Apparently Safari uses the iframe ID, and IE uses the iframe Name. Good to know.

New issue of Tiger. Lots of good work but the Eduardo Recife illustration caught my eye the most, even though it's only one page (or spread if you will).
