Powell blows too

posted March 13, 2003 #

Remember when Ashcroft covered Lady Justice because her bare breasts were showing and he said it sent the wrong message / was inappropiate? Well apparently, Powell doesn't feel too easy with Picass's "Guernica" anti-war painting hanging behind him when he speaks to the UN, so they covered it up as well. Symbolic? Chyah.. I think so. The presentation of photo's by Dirk Lambrechts is pretty entertaining. Alot of smooth animations, and "glitches" once you're viewing a full size image. Even if you're not into the photography thing, go look at the presentation..

supergrass 3/12

posted March 13, 2003 #

Eight hours in the car for Supergrass and I'd say overall.. it was worth it. The Coral put on a trance inducing brit-pop instrumental rock out for the portion of their set that I saw (nice blending of styles too). Don't trust Mapquest to give the right directions - as the Eleven 50 club is not on Peachtree (the venue was rad though.. like The Tabernacle scaled down by 40%). And hey, it ended by 10pm CST so I was home by 2.. my standard bedtime. Good deal.

from dolan

Some interesting links from Dolan. First, this article about the rumored upcoming Apple music swapping service. The other is this article regarding how crappy the new legite music services are. Though I don't think anyone would drop several thousand bucks to switch over to an Apple machine just because they have a kickass music service (Mac would have a larger marketshare if they were just a TINY bit cheaper, in my opinion). Interesting reads regardless.

wareHAUS

Check the works of the two Zachary's over at Discount Warehaus... the other artists work is pretty cool too but those two guys in particular really hit the spot.

nomad

Apparently my Rio Volt is broken.. so I "must" decide between a NOMAD Zen or an iPod... though I've heard 40 gig models are coming soon, so I will have to wait either way.

LOOP

posted March 11, 2003 #

In celebration of going to see Supergrass tomorrow, here's a link to a nice Life On Other Planets Jukebox.. some cool little features (the collage maker is nice), and demo versions of alot of the songs on the record. Kind of a cool idea to get people into it, but the final versions are so much cleaner it may deter people from giving it a good chance. But it's good for the people that already appreciate the album and would like to hear something new...

don't read this

Take a look at this site. I didn't read a word of it but the photography was pretty interesting.. seems like a good place to just scroll through.

our government blows

posted March 11, 2003 #

I'm glad our government spends time on crap like this. It's no wonder the world hates us... with the way our politicians represent us, we look like total jackasses.

New line of stolen shirts available.. even if you have no intention of buying one, you can at least window shop.

more wooster stuff

posted March 11, 2003 #

I should just change yewknee to be an RSS feed of Wooster posts.. consistently posting interesting artists that I am unable to keep to myself. Go there and read about Starsky and make sure you check his work. The computer keys are my favorite from the pieces they posted but all of it was a nice flavor to it.

the onion hits home

posted March 11, 2003 #

It's incredible how accurate The Onion can be. Read this article and tell me it's not completely believable. I remember David Cross complaining about Bush's tax incentive back in 2001 about how inane the idea is that a measly $100 - $300 can entice a nation to agree with almost anything.

frankie kicks your ass in HTML

posted March 11, 2003 #

I think it's safe to say that Frankie officially kicks your ass in HTML / DHTML skills. Check out The Foundation site.. really nice texturing, animation without the assistance of Flash, excellent layout overall. The only drawback is the lack of content - and I'm going to take a wild stab and say that's not Frankie's job to provide. In summation, excellent work.. incredible.

eDesign

posted March 10, 2003 #

Some cool articles and such over at eDesign - including a feature on Nando Costa (you know hungry for design) and a Q&A with Mike Young (WWFT) where he actually responds with answers relating to his work and not about lawnmowers, spoons, or other misc items. Plus they have some articles about Flash videos (like the one's Fullerene did for Beck and Duran Duran) and even talk to Mike Hand who created them. Overall something to check out and keep an eye on for some good reads.

Nicolas Guirriec

posted March 10, 2003 #

Surfstation says the work of Nicolas Guirriec is "completely useless, and thus completely essential..." Couldn't have said it better myself. I love sites that have some interesting design / art pieces throughout them with no clear motive behind them, just work because the artist has no choice. Count always said that his art was a curse.. he sometimes wished he could do something else but there is no way for him to deny making music, it's just part of him. Always pleasing to see that come out in a visual artist as well.

evil pupil

posted March 10, 2003 #

If you haven't seen it, there's some new work over at Evil Pupil. Good stuff as expected.. the work for the untitled.nu book looks rather interesting... and I'd never seen the same ole shelter piece before, incredible audio on that one.

nick - peep this

I agree with Nick that this ranks well among the "worst logo's ever" but how about this guy for "creepiest ever." I don't like what's implicated there one bit. For a little discussion about it, check here.

I haven't even heard the song yet, but there's a tune up from Travis Morrison on the ole interweb. He's the singer from Dismemberment Plan if ya didn't know.

win without war

posted March 10, 2003 #

I followed this link from Killing Goliath and watched all the TV spots... celebrities speaking out against the atrocities of war. But ya know what? It seems like it will make absolutely no difference.. you can fax (or demonstrate) all you want.. Bush isn't exactly acting on the will of the people. I think it's incredible how many people are speaking out against this situation.. and I hope people across the globe realize this is the US leaders who are dropping the ball and being completely disgraceful, and not the American people. Fo realz.
