Metroid movie

posted January 22, 2003 #

I think I just had the nerdiest conversation I've ever been involved in... all sparked from the fact that Metroid seems to have been optioned to become a film. Allow me to enter a new level of yewknee nerdiness... Certain people are saying that the Mother Brain in the original Metroid was the "leader of the space pirates" (of which Kraid and Ridley were also members) and that's why the Metroid aliens only appear on her level, because she is in control of them. I feel that Mother Brain was the biggest, baddest mutated Metroid and THAT'S why she was in control of them. And regardless of any unofficial FAQ I'm stickin to that! (and also for the record - the "Justin Bailey" code was not a fluke.. gimme a break).

recoloring = redesign?

posted January 22, 2003 #

I dunno if it's to reflect their sour mood or if it's a permanent change but there is a new look over at Pitchfork Media. Lots of greys (mmm... grey) and some yellows as well. Not a total redesign, mostly the same basic structure but I do have to question... where are the advertisements? They must be coming soon (they'll probably be there when you check it out but for some reason weren't there for me... odd).

errands

posted January 21, 2003 #

I saw my first real life Segway today tooling down the sidewalks of Nashville.. and it wasn't nearly as impressive as I was hoping. I will admit that seeing one made me giggly with excitement, but it was more hysterical than impressive.

hot design

Super hot design on this Soulwax "Conversation Intercom" single. Nice usage of the black underside CD.... I wonder if the top of the CD is grooved.. only one way to find out...

exit in

posted January 20, 2003 #

It's nice that the Exit/In has a website but I wish it wasn't.. umm.. crappy looking. But at least it's informative - that's the must.

Check the Erkut Terliksiz portfolio site. The 'Pop Icon' project is rad.. and lots of other cool stuff.

movie titles

posted January 20, 2003 #

Interesting movie title discussion at Typographica (mostly re: 'Catch Me If You Can') via Speak Up. I think alot of people are forgetting 'The Royal Tenenbaums' had some very consistent and well done titling, even if it was uber-simple.

extra oooomph

There's something oddly intriguing about extra-oompH. The little books are probably my favorite, but all the "random print" work is interesting as well. And a VH1 Creative Director to boot.

end of the banana?!

posted January 20, 2003 #

I've seen this linked a number of places but how can the days of the banana be numbered? I'd rather not see a fruit go extinct in my lifetime.. it's a sign of a serious problem.

bummed

posted January 19, 2003 #

Crappy news of the day: The Dismemberment Plan broke up. They aren't dropping everything and cursing at each other but they aren't planning on putting out anymore albums. Definetly a bummer. And it's a big smack in the face that I find this out today and they played Knoxville on Friday and Lexington, KY. yesterday. They mention possibly touring the US one more time on their site, hopefully that will happen as they were very enjoyable live (and their records are still quite enjoyable.. go get a copy of "Emergency & I" and thank me later).

weekend movie note

posted January 19, 2003 #

Weekend movie note: Reservoir Dog DVD Special Features suck. Usual Suspects is still good. Dogma outtakes are boring. Royal Tenenbaums commentary is a bit slow but at the website still rools yoo.

Check out the works of monitorPop. Aside from the Deftones site, there are some other nice works in the portfolio. Be sure to check out the putt-putt golf game in the "games" section.. so difficult.

apt121 splash

posted January 17, 2003 #

I'm sure he's brewing something new, but Matt's Apt 121 splash is some of my favorite work of his yet. Very simple, good color choices, nice random splash of white dirt.. nice distressing. All that for a simple splash, thats how much I like it.

more wintery photos

It's time for some soup and coding for me - but in the meantime. Enjoy this collage, and check for more photos in the comments of this post.

Zwan song

posted January 16, 2003 #

Mac and I were discussing the new ZWAN site and have decided - it is good. Not what you'd expect from Mr. Corgan - very colorful and bright. And the single "Honestly" is decent.. I've got some issues with the video but overall it's entertaining.

grandson finds film - makes good

posted January 16, 2003 #

Grandson finds 100 rolls of undeveloped film from grandfathers stay in China during the 1930's. Develops majority of film, puts up website and makes good. Some truly incredible photos (c'mon, look at these!).
