this won't last forever

posted January 6, 2003 #

It's gonna suck when daniel gets his site up and going because then he'll keep quality links like this all for himself. His email simply read "the paper is the camera." Very amazing outcome.

archived dtops

I archived the old v4 desktops into this revision of the site tonight. I prefer a more detailed style these days.. but it's good to archive.

people with logs

posted January 4, 2003 #

It appears that Karl has some photos up from a art/rock show that occured recently in his area. The art pieces are interesting and the log itself is something to keep up with... odd that k4rl is his personal website, but dotter is where the goods reside.

klick klick x 175

posted January 3, 2003 #

Super clean design over at klick175 - some nice little coded goodies and such. And it doesn't hurt that I'm linked as a "wizard."

superlooper

posted January 3, 2003 #

You've probably seen this one, as it's been around for awhile, but Superlooper is pretty dern nifty. The animation of content is slight but appreciated. The illustration style is pretty unique as well... and loads of fonts and such to download.

feltron four is fabulous

posted January 3, 2003 #

Allow me to gank a link from the ever caustic buzzard and share feltron four with you. Tough site to describe... kind of a pixel based site, but it feels like it has a twist to it to me. The dynamic layer movement is such a great touch to the site (see the Type page.. quite nice).

Thrice

posted January 3, 2003 #

I'm mildly intrigued by the music, but the site design for Thrice is what compels me to log. Very techno stylish, which is kind of unfitting for their sound, but the intro portion is very well done and the information within the site is laid out nicely. Worth a peek (especially at the site info page which is a huge clash in styles).

Kill `em.. Kill Bill

posted January 3, 2003 #

The teaser trailer for Kill Bill is up. The "fourth" film film from Quentin Tarantino (though Dusk Til Dawn should count for something)... it definetly looks alot more action packed than anything else he's done. Very japanese martial-arts influenced, to say the least. But he'll make it interesting I'm sure.

BCKN

New version of BCKN , just in time for 2003. Much bigger, much more vertical, photo goodness is sure to ensue.

2003 first post

posted January 2, 2003 #

I had several year-end goals for 2002. Projects I wanted finished, goals I wanted accomplished, etc. But I didn't actually get to all those things so I'm doing my best to get to them now (because hey, if you finish in early 2003 it's just like finishing in late 2002). So while I work on those things, you can check this stuff out:

Isle of Printing - local screen printing firm making some nice prints

the615 - always some good posts from local area designers the615.

9MM graffiti - some interesting pieces

Vagrant Records design vs. the original Epitaph Records design. Another annoying rip to add to the list of many.

2002 Final post

posted December 31, 2002 #

As the final post for 2002 I bring you three things:
1) 12oz Prophet - not much actual site content, but an intense message board focusing on graffiti and such (link via Daniel).

2) Don Hertzfeldt's Bitter Films. Which you are probably already familiar with if you've seen Rejected, but those comics are a great way to ring in a new year.

3) If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you'll see a new "Archive" button, which will allow you to search (or just browse) all previous posts dating back to March of 2001.

So if you have absolutely no New Years plans, now you can browse those links and peruse the depths of logging that is yewknee.com. See you next year! (Sorry, had to do it).

Top 10 - 2002

posted December 31, 2002 #

Well, since it's the last day of 2002 I will do the one thing that is completely expected of me - and come up with some best of lists! I've posted this on a few message boards and it may end up on Silent Uproar but here's my Top 10 Albums of 2002:

In no particular order:
1. My Vitriol - Finelines
2. Mary Timony - The Golden Dove
3. QOTSA - Songs For The Deaf
4. Electric Soft Parade - Holes In The Wall
5. Supergrass - Life On Other Planets
6. The Shins - Oh, Inverted World
7. Donnie Darko - Original Sndtrk
8. Dredg - El Cielo
9. Doves - Last Broadcast
10. David Cross - Shut Up You F'ing Baby

Notable Mentions: 12 Rods, Motion City Soundtrack, Brendan Benson, Shiner (Lula Divina re-release), Chevelle, Knodel, and... while somewhat reluctantly.. Deadsy.

crackpot

Group of illustrators called crackpot are producing some great work. I think that Caitlin Kuhwalds work is the style I prefer the most but they are all very strong and have something interesting going on.

Die Even Harder Than You Died Last Time

posted December 31, 2002 #

Okay, so there is an official title for the new Die Hard 4 film that is being made.. and surprise, surprise it's called "Die Hardest." And according to that article Bruce Willis isn't even into the idea of making the film, yet he's doing it anyway. I'm not sure anyone beyond the movie studios really wants another Die Hard anyway, so why not call it a day, make everyone happy, and not make it? Or at least call it "Die Harder Than You Died The Last Three Times You Died."

LOTR

posted December 31, 2002 #

Last night Daniel, Sibhod and myself went to see The Two Towers - the latest installment of Lord Of The Rings (if you didn't know). Overall, good movie - great special effects (the Ents make it worth it) but I would definetly say it felt rushed at times and in the end I didn't really feel like the characters were any farther than they were in the end of the first one, except in a bit more trouble.

Fatoe is cooler than you - trust me

posted December 30, 2002 #

Some new stuff up at Fatoe. I love sites that you can come back to and still be impressed by their variety of styles and well designed information. Consistency and Variety is a wonderful thing.

jason has a blog! aha!

posted December 30, 2002 #

Apparently there's been a redesign on the Square John site and it now includes a log from Jason.... very interesting. I will have to keep an eye on that. There is a link there to Fiddler Records which, musically, isn't really my cup of tea but I do enjoy the opening subtle, almost slight-of-hand style, animation and the super clean no BS content (two song samples, take it or leave it).

Check out Fly Guy, an interactive whimsical e-card of sorts. Nice art direction and actually oddly fun. Link via Big Pugh.
