It appears that the
Exit/In is back. For those of you not in the Nashville area - the Exit/In is the only mid-sized venue around here for shows.. when it shut down due to unpaid liquor taxes it was definetly a sad day. In my fantasy world I would have purchased it and made Nashville a "music city" - and not just stereotyped for country.

The more I think about that last post the more it kind of infuriates me. Not that anyone wants me to go off on some political rant (you come here for the purty links right?) but this "war on terror" is absolutely ridiculous. Noone will win this kind of battle. Lots of innocent people are bound to die. And even if some "terrorist leaders" get removed from whatever position they're in it's not going to prevent terrorism. It's a pretty safe bet that the entire world will not ever agree with each other and that there will always be extremists ready to do whatever it takes to express their views.

Oddly enough I find myself
agreeing with Democratic Senator Tom Daschle regarding our lack of "progress" or even a way to guage progress for this "war on terror." However, Daschle just talks the talk, he doesn't walk the walk.. so he still gets a mild thumbs down.

Strange coincedence in graphic design. Compare
Spoon's album cover to the cover of the new
Low album. Not exact replicants or anything but strangely similar.

Kurt mentioned to check out
Movielink yesterday and I forgot about it until I saw it mentioned on
Duncan's site. I actually think the idea of "renting" a download is not a half bad idea, however only one viewing within 24 hours of starting the file is a bit ridiculous. Oh, and while I may not condone it.. you know a crack will pop up online for these files and then flood KaZaa (or like-minded file sharing programs).

What's your take on
guerilla fonts? I think there is some good stuff though I assume
Dolan would disagree.

Interesting
article about web standards and how Jeffrey Zeldman feels they are imperative for the longevity of the web. I agree with about 99% of it. I do not agree that a majority of the web is obsolete. I also am skeptical of his push for web standards, especially coupled with the fact that he says the only constant on the web is change. Standards are prone to shift just like anything else, so if your page complies with whatever W3C standard now, who's to say it will 10 years from now? Interesting read none-the-less. Link via

Dear Coen Brothers. Please do not make a
spin-off sequel to The Big Lebowski. Granted, the Jesus Quintana character is a favorite by almost anyone who enjoys the movie but there is absolutely no reason to expand on his character. He is good as is. I can only hope John Turturro was kidding when he said they were working on a storyline.

I'm quite interested to test out the new
Macromedia Contribute software. A standard content management system seems a little fishy seems most people/clients need some customization but overall it would be a step up from the standard updating procedure.

I keep getting update requests from
SmartFTP telling me to upgrade to a newer build of the software but that the user license has changed and it's not "Freeware" anymore.. so I've neglected to update. But much to my relief, the license has only changed for commercial users - so I am good to go.

Couple good links
1)
This ad that was apparently run in Rolling Stone (warning - PDF file). Nice to see Rolling Stone "standing up" for music lovers instead of just.. featuring the new KoRn record. Link via
KC.
2)
Modern Humorist. You've undoubtedly seen something from there already but it's nice to browse the archives.
3) And the ultimate cartoon.. my favorite..
RIAA Safety Guide To The Beach (yea you've seen it but you know you wanna read it again).
