fuck our government

posted November 11, 2002 #

You know, I actually agree with Iraq on this point. "This U.N. resolution looks for a pretext (for war) and not for a comprehensive solution. It seeks to create crises rather than cooperation and paves the way for aggression rather than for peace," - Iraq Parliment speaker Saadoun Hammadi. I think the US is being a total hypocrite by going out and disarming other nations when we have plenty of weapons of mass destruction of our own but irregardless - why even bother to set criteria to pass if really all you want to do is attack? How many people in our country are actually behind these actions? Do the majority of us actually support this? I hope not.

pot vs tobacco

Interesting finds on cannabis smoking - and how it's actually just as harmful (if not more) than cigarettes. The final paragraph of the article cracks me up because it comes off as ignorant and just refusing to hear new insights.

in our hands

Why is Spike Jonze directing Creepy Peeping videos and then labeling it as a music video for Bjork? Actually it's not that bad.. Bjork consistently has something interesting going on for her her videos - I suppose this is no different. Oh yea, and it's a good song.

The illustration of andrew pommier has a crude, innocent, and creepy quality to it.

bowling

So I went and saw Bowling For Columbine and it's one of those movies that I think everyone needs to see, but unfortunately will only be viewed by people that agree with Michael Moore's views. He takes on a very interesting approach about gun control in our country and why we seem to have the highest death toll despite other countries being in similar situations. It, unfortunately, does not answer it's own question but I suppose that's the point - to get you thinking. At least watch the Flash intro on the site - do yourself that favor.

weekend blather

Woah, new blather.org! I can't say enough about the skills of Mike Buzzard - you wish you were his friend. And yes, he is caustic.. I wasn't kidding about that the first time I said it, and I still believe it.

get yer ascii on

While I must get back to work, I suggest you go get your ascii on. You know you want something like that in your Outlook signature, admit it.

new615

posted November 8, 2002 #

Have I mentioned that the new 615 site launched? Buncha Nashville area designers posting recent works, current works, websites of interest, and a playground for displaying random art.

8mile

Saw 8-mile.. and Eminem does a pretty good job of portraying himself (or a character not too unlike himself). Brittany Murphy was a total waste of a character.. the same tension could have been created with the barely mentioned "girlfriend." Oh well.. always good to see an ole-fashioned rap off.

2 questions

2 Questions. What if Sadam complies? and What if another country wants unfettered access to our weapons stockade? War is weak.

Hrm.. a book

I couldn't resist a tiny bit of research.. leave it to Snopes to make a good guess. Whatever it is, and as horrible and cliche as the storyline sounds, it's some decent promotion for sure.

Can someone read between the lines on this site and explain to me what it is that I'm supposed to be picking up on besides a completely laughable story (particularly "they were the sure signs that indicated someone was hacking into my computer.".. blah). I'm sure it's something obvious that I'm missing but it's late and I'd rather not decipher it all.. so let me know.

so fake

posted November 8, 2002 #

It might be So Fake but it's definetly a really innovative design and a hell of an execution. One of the more original sites I've seen in awhile. Be sure to check out the haircut.swf - so creepy. Link via Daniel and Arlo.

awesome - sorcere

posted November 7, 2002 #

Apparently a man was convinced he was invisible and could rob banks if he wanted to. He was, of course, caught but now the police are after the "sorcerer" who convinced the man he was invisible. I say let the sorcerer go.. I mean... no harm, no foul. And really, I'd like to hear about more people being convinced they're invisible. (Mirrors? What?)

space invader

Interesting, though somewhat awkward, interview with Space Invader over at MONO: cultures. I'd like to see more of the works available (i.e. Victim) but either the HTML is not behaving for me or the server is being super slow.. will have to return later.

crazy ebay

You know those crazy ebay items that pop up randomly... now I can, hesitantly, say that I know someone who started one. And what an obscure auction it is.
