That Raccoon yap is completely unrelated to anything but, damn, if it isn't pleasant.
Short and busy week. Here's to a laid back weekend.
David Fincher: Invisible Details - I've been watching Mindhunter lately and it reminded me of this video essay on the insane amount of CG that Fincher uses; often in very subtle ways. If this entertains you, watch the Mindhunter VFX breakdown.
NES Music Inspiration - don't love the narration here but this is a pretty fascinating piece on NES composer Koji Kondo's inspirations. Everything is a Remix.
Supergrass - Alright - it was recently announced that Supergrass would celebrate the 25th anniversary of their first album by reforming for some shows. I have decided to use this as a valid excuse to revisit their fantastic catalog. Here's a playlist of their final setlist back in 2010.
Ashley O - On a Roll - I find myself singing this ridiculous version of "Head Like a Hole" from the Miley Cyrus episode of Black Mirror. It's absolutely terrible but also an earworm.
Stone Jack Jones - I'm Gone - a gentle reminder to watch this new Stone Jack Jones video. It's not fast paced or steeped in Internet Stupidity (which is why I assume you come here) but it is worthwhile. I think it's a beauty, even if it does require a little patience.
Happy to announce that the debut full-length album from The Medium, Get It While It's Hot, is available today (via yk Records) naturally). We pressed it on Coke Bottle Clear vinyl that you can pick up here or you can stream the whole thing on your preferred streaming service.
In short, the album is fun. It's steeped in 60's Pop and Psychedelia and there's clearly a big Beatles influence going on with the harmonies and lyrical content. These are all very very good things as far as I'm concerned.
I first heard "Good ol' Days" and "The Groove" when I stumbled across the band, so I'll suggest you start there but having listened to the album countless times in the past few months leading up to the release, I can safely say there's not a moment where it lulls. It's great from top to bottom. Hope you agree!
It is a beautiful video. I understand I am completely biased in this regard but it turned out extremely well. The song is a bit slow paced and meditative; which requires a bit of patience from a viewer but, ultimately, the whole piece is a bit haunting, a bit creepy and absolutely spellbinding.
Ben is one of the most giving (and humble) folks when it comes to doling out ‘his story’! He’s let me trot him out to the masses & I’m forever grateful. Also, @alexsteed is DOIN’ WORK (& a nice person). Earnest! @AuntB! That stuntman! Subscribe to this podcast. https://t.co/O1QL8o0Dkk
looking forward to their next innovation, "scheduled program breaks that inform viewers of a wide variety of goods and services they might like to purchase." https://t.co/TxGtEsSxWd
Hey, I interviewed Ben Swank of @thirdmanrecords. We talked music and Nashville and all that, but I also asked him a number of questions about what he's learned after 10 years in business. And get this! He answered those questions. https://t.co/CeN3Ojc6IV
