Randomly stumbled into the work of Dallas, TX musician
Kraus the other day and have been enjoying a deep dive into his offerings of wall-of-sound shoegaze. The latest full-length,
Path, is a wash of guitars and vocals; as you'd want and expect from a shoegaze records. I get hints of M83 and Deftones from the vocals from time to time; neither of which are meant as warnings or complaints, quite the opposite. Overall, it feels great to let yourself be immersed in the experience.
There's also a compilation of b-sides from
Path entitled
Idyll that leans more into the ambient and post-rock realm of compositions. It's a nice companion to the full record and could likely be shuffled into the main tracklisting for a little break from time to time.
If Bandcamp's not your thing, it's
streaming wherever. Give it a go.

I think it's fairly safe to say that when promoting a
podcast you are probably going to want to take clips of your episodes and turn them into videos to post on various social networks. It's been done a thousand times over for good reason. However, there aren't always user friendly tools for actually
making those clips.
Enter
Headliner, a web based app designed to do exactly that - take your audio, pair it with some visuals and output a video. It's startlingly easy to use and surprisingly robust. It even transcribes your audio with absurd accuracy (not 100% but pretty close).
The bonkers part is that it is
free. I imagine this is a startup with some capital to burn that will worry about monetization later (they seem to say as much). I'd usually be a little wary of investing time or effort into anything that potentially flimsy but, frankly, it's hard to imagine this not sticking around for a good long time. Adding a subscription layer seems like an inevitable no brainer but, for now, it's just entirely free. Bonus.

Sometimes the Internet puts the gas on Stupid and churns out some absolute gold. These
NEW EMOJIS are absurd in all the best ways. If you find yourself stating that they are dumb and would never work as real emoji, you've already lost.

This Medium piece that urges you to
take another look at Tumblr isn't so much a plea to "please revisit our platform" as much as it is an update on the visual tactics used on their latest round of branding tweaks. Often, these kinds of explorations can be a bit boring but I rather enjoyed the insight on how they tweaked the Dinamo typeface Favorit to fit their brand and how they use other platforms (i.e. Instagram) to extend their voice and vibe.
The Tumblr of 2018 isn't quite the same as Tumblr of 2010 or even 2015 but it's nice to read this kind of insight to get an idea of where they're headed.

The official paper of Sandusky, Ohio,
The Sandusky Register, put a
full page feature on their Entertainment section dedicated to
Sandusky, Ohio, the Tommy Boy concept record from
Dave Paulson. So, I couldn't think of better timing to announce the launch of the
Vinyl Crowdfunding campaign. If you've thought to yourself, "I wish I could have that record on vinyl" - now is your chance.
The intent behind
Sandusky, Ohio was that it would only ever be a digital release - so that's what we planned for. Generally, I don't run crowdfunding campaigns for the records I help release but there's been a great response and pressing the records this way will be a nice new experience for me
and help to get the records out to those that want it.
TLDR: Listen to
Sandusky, Ohio and then
order the vinyl version.

I’m half way through @jasminkaset & @vanityset’s new project, You Drive. Art & production is outtasite. Vocals are perfect. Hell, all choices made are just unstoppable. And I don’t even like synthesizer music.
