Even if these people weren’t “tricked” by Sacha Baron Cohen, they were saying those words to camera after signing releases. For all they knew it would be on YouTube in a week with even LESS context and they still agreed to it.
I'm announcing a brand new podcast today called This Is The Place over on the We Own This Town network. The show focuses on the ever growing (and shrinking) bar and restaurant scene in Nashville, TN. So, if you're not a Nashville resident, it might not be up your alley unless you're looking for some recommendations of spots to check out while you're in town.
If you do live in Nashville; I think this show will grow into a staple in your arsenal. The hosts, Matt Meeks and Mickey Parks, come from different backgrounds and experience the food scene in town very differently. Matt's a parent of two and finds his time at new locations to be a precious resource whereas Mickey is a single guy looking for new and interesting experiences. Neither is the preferred method but they do frame the experience differently.
Enjoy Episode 1, The Sound of a Thousand Knives Dropping.
Through complete luck and chance I stumbled on this archive.org repository from Boognish Monster. If you don't know what a Boognish is, it's a Demon God invented by Dean and Gene Ween. Long story short, it's the mark of Ween.
Another recent YouTube hole I've fallen down is camcorder footage from British Goth Clubs. This two hour piece called The Height of Goth captures an evening at The Xclusiv, a goth club in West Yorkshire, UK in 1984. There are othershorter clips worth watching as well but the full two hour piece is the real immersion.
These kinds of clubs certainly still exist today but there's something about the poor video quality mixed with the absolutely bonkers outfits and hair (oh, the hair) that makes these older clips something special.
I just realized my first Old Man Trait is telling people to "click" on something on their phone, rather than the appropriate verb "tap."
I understand I should change this and I never will and it feels great.
It's been two weeks since the last one, so that means it's time for another installment of the WOTT Music podcast I make. While I'm happy with just about every episode I've put out there, this one turned out particularly well.
Aside from legitimately enjoying all of the music that ended up on the show, I also got to learn a hearty lesson about judging a band too harshly based on the name alone. Yea, yea, we've all heard "don't judge a book by its cover" but this band is called "The Lonely Biscuits"! Wasn't I allowed to pass some judgment?? Turns out, I wasn't. The song I included, "Endlessly" is very good and the album it comes from is also quite good. Egg on my face there.
I am sure everyone has their favorite way to send notes to themselves - maybe it's Google Keep, maybe it's Notes on OSX or EverNote or some other popular app that I'm not familiar with. The options are endless, I've no doubt. Personally, I like to just my inbox for storing ideas and random links that I want to revisit later. It's convenient and lets me keep things all in one place. Sure, there's a little clutter but it's worth it (imo).
For the longest time I'd been using an app called "Mail to Self" that would simply email you a link to whatever you were looking at. When that stopped working for no clear reason, I switched over to Note to Self; which does the exact same thing. It's well put together, looks nice and the Share extension makes it unbelievably easy to simply shoot myself a note to something I want to revisit or
