Baltimore photojournalist
Aubrey Bodine captured American life from 1920 to 1970 in stunning black and white. This
article gives a nice overview of his career and provides a gallery of enormous versions of his work - really the only way to view them. The silhouette pieces are stunning to say the very least.

Been enjoying a deep dive into the Youtube channel
House Show, a part-interview / part-performance talk show undertaking that showcases a lot of Nashville area bands. I suggest starting with these episodes from
The By Gods and
The Chewers, just as a fun jumping off point.

Whaaa, I never knew about Neopets' ties to Scientology. The founders fought it, but the CEO/investor structured the company on Scientology orgs, staffed the exec team with Scientologists, and wanted to teach Scientology on Neopets! https://t.co/ChHvxTvl3C

There are
lots of great episodes of
Off Camera with Sam Jones but I've been particularly smitten with this recent release
with John Goodman. The above clip is only 3 minutes long but the entire episode is about an hour of the two chatting through Goodman's career, his slips with alcoholism and why he steals like an artist.
It's also available
as a podcast if you're fine with just
hearing it, which is perfectly acceptable.

In 2003,
Forget Cassettes released their debut record
Instruments of Action. It was - and is - a ferocious record filled with tension and explosive moments. Now, fifteen years later, my label
yk records is reissuing the record on vinyl for the first time. It's available to order
right now.
I went to high school with Beth Cameron, the driving force behind the band, and saw Forget Cassettes very first show in a tiny club. However, my interest in reissuing the record isn't steeped in nostalgia but, rather, in shining a light on a powerful female voice that I've had the utmost respect for across a 25-year friendship. Beth's songs are able to emote complete desperation and isolation while turning on a dime into a fiery outpouring. This record is still a force to be reckoned with and I hope a new generation of listeners can discover it with this reissue.
We packaged the record in a gatefold jacket with a coke bottle clear LP and have included an exclusive 7" with two previously unreleased songs - an alternate version of one of the album tracks and a live cover of a PJ Harvey track.
Long story short, here's a great record available on vinyl for the first time,
ready for you.

If you missed the last episode of
Vidalotry, the podcast about Gore Vidal, please go
have a listen as it covers the vitriolic debates between Vidal and William F. Buckley. It really gets gnarly. This latest episode,
Mean Mad Mailer, continues that story with the contentious relationship between Vidal and
Norman Mailer; involving a bickering debate
and a headbutt. Hearing about this Mailer debacle and how a female journalist on
The Dick Cavett Show put them both in their place is a real treat.
We're halfway through this series overall - there will only be 10 episodes total of
Vidalotry - but it continues to be an impressive list of outlandish and outspoken events.

Hott Minute going strong over
We Own This Town. For a show that gestated in the minds of the hosts - Ashley and Jamie - for 4 years, they're really hitting their stride. The latest episode,
A Tankard of Koala Urine, is less obscure than last weeks episode but less entertaining.
I'm continuously fascinated that every episode these two are able to riff on a wide range of topics, keep it funny
and rarely be stumped by whatever subject is at hand. They always have some insight or background information; truly an impressive feat.
Oh, and this weeks theme song is by
Little Bandit, so be sure to give that a spin.

Really enjoying the work of
Marcus Maddox, particularly the set of
Monographs available on his site. The limited color palette is oddly surreal and there's clearly a little narrative at play, as simple as it may be.
Also be sure to swing by his collection of
Music photographs as well - plenty of great images captured there.

I encountered the work of
Eddie Love the other week over at the
Fort Houston gallery. The online versions of his pieces give a proper sense of the color palette and overall chaos but it undermines the
scale of the work, which really is what makes it engaging. There's plenty of Basquiat style influences here but I'm a fan of wearing your influences on your sleeve.

Mellowdrone was a band that was active from about 1999 to 2009, culimating in the release of
Angry Bear, a extremely fine album if you've never heard it filled with all kinds of spacey rock influences that I, personally, love. According to Wikipedia, the frustrations of working as a "band" led the breakup of the project and
two new songs from a
It's nice that the band is back and I look forward to future output. Hopefully it doesn't just stop at these two songs (as good as they are).
