Back in 2016, I
stumbled into Pico-8, the "fantasy console" for creating new 8-bit games with similar restrictions to games of my youth. I pondered "if the cartridge offerings are worthwhile" but I think the past two years have proven that mild doubt to be unfounded.

tagged with Pico-8 and marvel at the creations! Massive
Zelda-esque dungeon explorations,
tiny platformers and even
Celeste Classic - everyone's favorite recent indie.
If you're looking for some distraction - long term or short term - this seems like a great place to start.

With the release of the
last episode of
Hott Minute (the podcast I produce and distribute via
We Own This Town), I mentioned that I wouldn't
always mention when a new episode is available. That's true but not quite applicable yet. The third episode,
Pobody's Nerfect, is now streaming everywhere and I figured this would be a good time to actually introduce the hosts.
- Ashley Spurgeon - though likely best known for her Nashville recaps at the Nashville Scene, Ashley is consistently contributing to pop culture commentary on her Twitter feed and shows a startling knowledge of both Simpson trivia and all things Anglophile. She's often audacious but never without solid footing to back it up. She's always dabbled in various collaborative projects - like the exemplary Rock n Roll Trivia at Mercy Lounge - but managed to keep her distinct voice.
- Jamie Bradley - a TX native that's embedded herself in all kinds of projects around Nashville during her tenure here. In Terminator: The Second, the Shakespearen / Terminator 2 stage play mashup, she played John Conner. She also played a major role in The Agents of Fortune, a three season series of spy-vs-spy absurdity, and shows up in this fantastic music video, to name but a few accolades. She has a razor sharp wit and shares similar Encyclopedic knowledge to all things pop culture - from Garry Shandling to every Kardashian, she manages to wrangle it all.
These two aren't largely well-known entities outside of Nashville but they are
hilarious. It's hard to be objective about that but their comedic talents are the primary reason why I wanted to work with them to get Hott Minute out into the world.

After reading through this
WIRED piece that praised the perfection of Google's
GBoard - a keyboard replacement for
Android and
iOS - I had to give it a spin.
I've tried many other keyboard replacements on my iPhone but it requires such a dedication to attune yourself to whatever new tricks and features are available, they rarely stick. So far, GBoard has been the exception to the rule.
Swipe Typing has been around for awhile but it wasn't until this particular attempt that it actually
worked for me. The assumptions made by the software on what I'm trying to type are actually pretty damn accurate. Add to that the built in Google, Youtube and GIF search, and it's hard to deny this is incredibly useful.
Downsides? I don't love the Emoji setup and I will always defer to my
Giphy Keyboard to have the best results for reaction images but those are small quibbles. If you haven't used it yet, give it a whirl.

Callum Donovan-Grujicich is a Canadian artist specializing in folk-art steeped creations depicting fantastical characters, like the above moon men. His
portfolio and
Instagram are a long stream of distorted faces and steampunk like fusions. The clincher? He's
twelve. As in, not even a teenager yet.
So what you will about
Children's Art, this is some extremely well executed work. If this was on display at a gallery, presented as the work of a new folk artist, no one would bat an eye. I find it a bit unsettling sometimes, which I think makes it even more effective.
