Why do they call it "ghosting" when ghosts hang around forever and never stop trying to get your attention?

Friday Videos - Sept 8th, 2017

posted September 8, 2017 #

As I've mentioned a few times, I'm sponsoring a show here in Nashville tonight so if you're around, come out! We even got a pleasant Critic's Pick from the ole local paper.
  • Paul McCartney - Swedemason - the first 30 seconds are gold and then this Swede goes completely nuts for another 2 minutes. I can't believe how well it works. via John.
  • Twin Peaks, without context - if you've not watched Twin Peaks, I can't imagine a better enticement.
  • Beck - Up All Night - new video from CANADA for Beck. Unsurprisingly, it's great.
  • A Bat Flew in the House - the likelihood of you having seen this on Facebook already is high but I don't care... it's hilarious.
  • Maggiez Matez Promo - a 1987 promo video promoting MAggiez Matez, a conservative youth club. It's also not from 1987 at all and it's satire making fun of a contemporary youth movement in the UK called "Activate" but that's just icing on the cake.
  • Hedgehog Massage - let it wash over you.
  • Hot Dog - when we envisioned the Internet, this was surely the intended culmination of its power.
  • Mario Maker Courses, Don't Move - I'm surprised it's taken me this long to go down a Mario Maker rabbit hole but here it is. I've arrived. I'm watching 20 minute compilations of custom courses in which the character does not move.
  • Starship Sleeping Quarters, 10 hours - for those of you that like a little sci-fi with your white noise.
If you need one more, hit up this old SNL Twin Peaks sketch that has a tiny cameo from Conan O'Brien.

WOTT presents: New Man

posted September 7, 2017 #

As you may know, I run the Nashville music podcast We Own This Town. Now that I'm living back in Nashville, I'm stepping it up a bit with my involvement there and trying to be more active in the actual city rather than just on the Internet. With that in mind, I'm presenting this show with New Man, Field Days and Charlie and the Evil Mothers.

I'm biased but I am sure it will be a good time. If you're in the Nashville area, come out to The 5 Spot on Friday, Sept 8th. If you're not, go listen to these songs and lament on missing out.

Elise Drake

This past weekend I stumbled into an exhibit from Elise Drake and was immersed into a world of Pee-Wee Herman-like good vibes twisted with sexual perversion and messages of empowerment. The NY artist works in "sculptural knitwear" and her site is brimming with examples of the full-size outfits she creates. If you had described it to me with just words I might have rolled my eyes but it was really quite a worthwhile sight. If you have the chance, see her Clear Search History installation. In the meantime, dive into her portfolio, her Instagram and her Tumblr.

In Jianhe county, Guizhou, China, the Miao people celebrate the legend of a dog that led the first settlers to a water source, allowing them to survive in their new home. The taigoujie, aka dog-lifting" festival, puts a single dog in a tailor-made suit and a giant wooden bamboo chair.

You can read more about it here or dive into a delightful gallery of the festivities over here.
