I'm pretty curious about the offering at GoMix - a Fog Creek product that lets you quickly and easily start developing apps, websites and random tools without really having to know too much code. It's akin to Zapier or Yahoo Pipes but just a bit nerdier - allowing you to get under the hood a bit more if you so desire. Being able to teach Alexa a new skill or create a slack bot without having to deal with anything close to an Amazon Web Service is definitely intriguing.

I recently asked the members of Apollo Up! to record a podcast discussing the writing and recording of their re-issued album, Chariots of Fire. I have now released said podcast over on We Own This Town and you can listen to it now.

This is actually part one of two. In this edition, the band discusses the recording process and breaks down each song on Side A of the record. Oh, and you get to hear my nerdy voice introduce the whole thing.

Call it controversial or just call it "synergy" but I did toil with the decision to release a podcast clearly promoting a record that my label, yk records released. It could be considered a conflict of interest - or just self-serving - but I don't think anyone is going to mind.

Anywho, many thanks to Ryan Ervin for hosting the band, Jeremy Ferguson for lending his studio Battle Tapes to record it and to the band for indulging my interest in such a discussion.

Over the Christmas break I decided to try moving some things around here on the site. Instead of treating the posts that would typically show up in the sidebar as second class citizens I'm just throwing everything into the primary feed at once.

I realize this could be problematic or annoying in some scenarios but I'm just happy to try something new. If I hear that it sucks, I'll move it back but I have a feeling no one will mind.

This change also affords me the opportunity to showcase items of interest in the area that was the sidebar of posts. I don't plan on having traditional ads on the site but I'm not above promoting my own projects ad nauseam.

There are two very important aspects to this post and I'm going to do my best to impress both of them upon you with the intensity and fascination that they've impressed upon me.

Andy Shauf "The Magician" video - directed by Winston Hacking, the video is an unbelievable execution of still-life collage and video. It's fun, it's weird and the aesthetic somehow matches the song perfectly. There's more from Winston Hacking on his site that I highly recommend you indulge in.
Andy Shauf - The Party - the album from which "The Magician" is taken is excellent from start to finish. It is incredibly melancholy and borderline tear jerking but there's an undeniable pleasantness and, dare I say, hopeful vibe to it.

Maybe both are old news to you - 2016 kinda stuff - but they only recently came into my world and it'd be a damn shame if you missed out on them.

Bonus, this Chad van Gaalen directed video for Quite Like You is excellent.

There is a deep portfolio of work to see from Ohio based designer Charlie Wagers but I suggest you start with his Gig Poster work. I'll even go as far as to say you should scroll to the bottom first and work your way upwards to see the transition in techniques and textures that get enhanced through the years.
