Justyn Iannucci

posted November 15, 2016 #

Over the weekend I stumbled upon this card featuring a beer loving Grim Reaper wearing sandals and Teva's. A delightful sight if there every was one. The genius behind this piece is Justyn Iannucci and the intriguing work doesn't stop there.
Much of the work finds that balance between feeling hand drawn but still feeling crisp and exact. I can't stop staring at that hand and I imagine I'd read an entire book of this if it wasn't just a show poster.

Find him elsewhere. Enjoy.

Anonymous Lacerator

French artist Jacques Villegle coined the term "Anonymous Lacerator" in regard to the collaborative destruction that occurs on walls that have been ripped, torn, reworked, eviscerated and lovingly manipulated into some new creation. This Design Observer piece, Surface Wreckage, dives deep into the history of this phenomena and tries to explain why we're drawn to these degrading time capsules.

MeError

Leonardo Magrelli's MeError project does a simple yet impossible thing - it removes the subject from the mirror's reflection. While I'm sure other artists have done similar manipulations, Magrelli's choice of locations and color palettes are unique. It's fascinating to see what can never be.

Skyway Man

posted November 14, 2016 #

Last Friday, Consequence of Sound debuted the first song from Skyway Man, a new undertaking from James Wallace. The track, "Terre, 9999", is now streaming everywhere and the album from which it comes, Seen Comin' From a Mighty Eye, will be available via yk records in February.
I've been a big fan of James Wallace after hearing his last record, More Strange News From Another Star. If you have not heard said record, listen to it after you indulge in the "Terre, 9999" embed. It's an album that is folky and upbeat while also being dystopian and a bit mournful. Skyway Man takes that vibe and extends it even further. I'm excited for everyone to hear the record.

Remy Soubanere

posted November 14, 2016 #

French photographer Remy Soubanere has a deep well of photos depicting metropolitan areas in long exposure, low-light scenarios. They are quiet, moody, beautiful pieces that rarely feature a living soul. It's a rather fascinating experience to start at the most recent and click through every image - taking in each haunting moment until you reach protests in Paris; a hefty juxtaposition to the preceding quiet images but every bit as transfixing.
