I'm still diving into the actual music that they offer but the visual vibe of Umor Rex Records is stunning. Without being too obvious, the simple layouts, bold color palettes and minimal typography (except when it isn't) is an admirable exercise in doing a whole lot with very little. I even like the tape designs! That's no easy task.

I caught the trailer for The Brand New Testament last night - a Jaco Van Dormael film that played at Fantastic Fest and tells the tale of God (a bathrobed prankster) and his neglected daughter. The gist of it? God's daughter unveils to everyone in the world exactly when they are going to die, creating a free wheeling atmosphere. It's clearly ridiculous but the trailer does a good job of telling the plot while only hinting at the weirdness within. I'm in and will keep an eye out for showtimes.

Director Kris Merc has a portfolio worthy of a deep dive but starting with this brand new Kool Keith x MF Doom collaborative effort is a great place to start. "Superhero" is a mesmerizing compilation of animation hinged on the iconic MF Doom mask as its main character. The song is great but the video elevates it to some remarkable levels.

Welp, it happened. I have so many questions and no one to ask. Are we really such a fearful, hate mongering country? Are people of color or the disabled or different sexual orientations or different religions really no longer welcome? Or were they never welcome and we Liberals just fooled ourselves into thinking everyone was getting on a level playing field?

But it doesn't matter what questions I have. The Electoral College has spoken and we're going to endure four years of Conservatives running everything. I have huge amounts of fear for the future; a little bit in terms of global relationships and possible nuclear threats but largely in terms of social acceptance and welcoming all people to the table.

My feelings of dread will hopefully pass one day but I don't want to passively allow the kind of hateful rhetoric the President-Elect promised on the campaign trail to come true. I hope that I can find a way to support the marginalized and try to make a good name for white males; we have a track record of awful behavior and I want to do everything in my personal power to not sustain that trend.
