Lyrics:
Giddy up, giddy up
Giddy up, giddy up
Wanna move into a fool's gold room
With my pulse on the animal jewels
Of the rules that you choose to use to get loose
With the luminous moves
Bored of these limits, let me get, let me get it like
Wow!
It's like right now
It's like wow!
It's like right, right now
It's like wow!
It's like right now
It's like wow!
It's like right now
Oh wow
It's my life, your life
Live it once, can't live it twice
So nice, so nice
Smooth like a tidal wave, take you on a getaway
My friends, your friends
Living every day like it's just about to end
Now we're pissin' in the wind cause it's so pine fresh
Right now
Yeah I, I wanna get it like
Wow!
It's like right now
It's like wow!
It's like
Giddy up!
Wow!
It's like right now
Wow!
Oh wow, it's like right now
It's your life
Falling like a hot knife
Call your wife; secular times, these times
My demon's on the cell phone
To your demons, nothing's even right or wrong
It's irrelevant, elephant in the room goes boom
Standing on your lawn doin' jiu jitsu
Girl in a bikini with the Lamborghini shih tzu
It's your life
You gotta try to get it right
Look around, don't forget where you came from
It's just another perfect night
We're gonna take it around the world
We're gonna take it around the world
Ride these wild horses
Ride these wild horses
We're gonna take it around the world
Like
Wow, wow, wow
Like
Giddy up!
Giddy up!
Wow!

A few months back I realized that the site I'd built for yk records back in 2009 was no longer sustainable or fun to update. So, I started working on a relaunch and, slowly but surely, I've been piecing it all together. Last night, I finally launched the brand new site and it feels like a much more fitting home for the 40 releases.
I'm sure there's bugs but I've done my damndest to provide a platform that gives insight into individual releases, showcases the artists effectively and, most of all, makes it very easy to hear the music.
As usual, Tony Zhou has crafted a fascinating mini-documentary on an element of film you've likely not paid much attention to - The Marvel Symphonic Universe. In the 13-minute runtime he investigates the reasons that Marvel movies have such forgettable music and the systemic problems involved with bringing in your composer as one of the last sprints to complete your film (spoiler alert: Temp Music is the culprit).
Be sure to watch the supplemental video that compares plenty of examples of Temp Music to Final Score; the differences are alarmingly slim.
Really enjoying the works of Maxwell Holyoke-Hirsch. There's a striking simplicity to a lot of it... meaning that he's able to do a whole lot with very little. Much of it has a 70's flair to it that feels like computers were never involved in the creation; the highest compliment.
About a year ago, I posted about the Alex Myung short film Arrival, an animated, Miyazaki influenced, piece on struggling with coming out. The film itself has been hitting the festival circuit and doing quite well. This interview with Alex talking about the film and its creation is a nice, quick, watch. I'm excited to see the final results and to hear the accompanying soundtrack.
Recently, Hillary Clinton was featured by Humans of NY, the photo journalist who gets real stories from people off the street. It's only twoportraits but the quotes that accompany them are surprisingly insightful.
I'll be honest, reading through this introductory paper on WaveNet, a Generative Model for Raw Audio, definitely has me a bit lost. Okay, I don't really fully grasp the tech behind it at all but that's not really the point. The point is that steps are being taken to greatly improve upon Text to Speech synthesis, adding a very human element to the computerized voices.
You can play around with the current state of TTS with terminal commands or on the web. It's jilted, stiff and amusing for it's robotic transparency. Compare that to the examples in this WaveNet doc and you'll immediately understand how impressive their work is.
Make sure you scroll down to the "Knowing What to Say" section to hear the incoherent babbling that informs the synthesis. Fascinating to say the least.
