Last night I attended the final show of Those Darlins. There's certainly a downside to a band calling it quits but I'm intrigued to see what the individual members get into next. Additionally, Idle Bloom opened for them and I see great things in their future.

Golden Girls Gospel Remix - you know it's coming and it delivers fully.
Windows 95 Launch was Lit - crank the speakers. There is nothing more awkward than early Microsoft employees, except maybe early Microsoft employees paired with aggressive rap.
Weird Arby's Guy - remember Andrew Bowser? The previously labeled Weird Satanist Guy? He's back at it. Same schtick, new Arby's hat.
Star Trek TNG: "Holodeck Horse" - these lost episodes are phenomenal.
Great Minds with Dan Harmon: Thomas Edison - another episode with Jason Sudeikis.

Also, take note: there's a Conspira-SEA Cruise. A yearly cruise in which like-minded souls gather together to uncover the truths of the world, on a giant boat. I dare you to watch the hourlong roundtables posted on their site.

Falter Inferno

Even after some rough Google Translation, I'm not quite sure what this Falter Inferno piece is promoting or what story it is telling. But that's exactly what makes it so compelling. Even without understanding the text, it's a beautiful piece of work taking you deeper and deeper into some hellish police state / post-apocalyptic realm.

If you see anyone remarking on the homogeny of the web, steer them here. There's plenty of wild creativity and incredible art being made that could only exist on the web.

The release of Let's Have an Adventure from POLY is right on the horizon. Next Friday, March 26th, the album will be available on streaming services and the beautiful vinyl will start shipping out. Oh, and the band is celebrating with a show at Club Roar in Nashville that Saturday. So don't miss that!

A Simulation In Emoji

The Emoji System Simulator is part science experiment, part dynamic animation and entirely something to exercise your brain with. You choose a set of emoji - say trees, free and lightning - and establish rules for when one particular emoji is next to another - i.e. fire next to a tree turns the tree into fire. This reaction spreads across the whole canvas.

Sounds nerdy? It certainly can be. Look at this Chemspiral Gradient Reaction. The author goes into detail about how this simple cyclical reaction is similar to the building blocks of the shape of a given organism, like the spots on a cheetah. It's also mesmerizing to stare into.

Many thanks to Ferris for the heads up on the fine artworks of Kelly Ording. I love the precision in all of line work and floral patterns in every piece of the Geometricy set. It's also fascinating to see the progression of shapes from the earlier work to the more recent - it's gotten far more simple over time and all the more engaging for it.

This compilation of film scenes showcasing the scenes that inspired the associated one sheet for each movie is surprisingly entertaining. It's part of a larger series of creative film collages entitled 1.000.000 Frames from Candice Drouet, all of which I recommend.

Berkin and Mika

I can't quite put my finger on it but the work of Berkin and Mika really has my number. Given its modern nature I'm not sure what any of it means but I love the simple presentation and general weirdness of it. A series of insects frozen in a jello mold? Sure. A cash register filled with pills? Check.

To be clear, I don't know why I like it but, aesthetically, I'm into it.

letterboxd App

I've been a mild Letterboxd user for a few years now and always enjoyed the service. It effectively does what it offers - track your movies, share your opinions and see what your friends are watching & thinking. I like it enough to pay for a Pro account!

So, I was quite pleased to see them launch an app. It has the same functionality as the site but manages to be much snappier and faster loading. Their small niche social network for movie nerds may not be for everyone but I like it and I'm happy to see them launch a more cozy homebase for it.

Another week closer to the release of the Tower Defense EP Stay Inside means another song debut! Like most of the tracks on the record, it's a quick onslaught of rock. Instead of asking the band to make the song three times as long, I just play it a minimum of three times every time I listen to it.
