In anticipation for the release, Wussy has revealed the first track “Dropping Houses” on SPIN. The single will be available for download via Bandcamp and in a limited run of 7” vinyl starting January 29. Made up of Chuck Cleaver (Ass Ponys), Lisa Walker, Mark Messerly, Joe Klug, and John Erhardt, Wussy has truly come into their own on the new album. Following the band’s first US TV appearance on CBS in 2014 and increased critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and SPIN, they headed to the studio to record Forever Sounds with renewed vigor. John Hoffman and Jerri Queen (both of Vacation), along with John Curley (Afghan Whigs) at Curley’s Ultrasuede Studios, the new team and location enabled the band to take more chances and create the sound they had always been reaching for. While their pop sensibilities remain intact, the mix and instrumentation are more reminiscent of the band’s noise-heavy live shows. • Batman v Superman (Weird Trailer) - this modified trailer is 1000x better than the original. It's also nightmarishly weird but in the most amusing ways.
• Bowie - Funny Moments Pt 1 - I'm still continuing the deep dive down into the realm of Bowie and finding compilations like this one is a real treat.
• David Lynch's Return of the Jedi - some might say Dune was David Lynch's Return of the Jedi but, no, this is his version. Awesome edit.
• Twirl a Squirrel Champ - this bird feeder may be designed to prevent squirrels from latching on but that doesn't mean they won't try their best. Whatachamp. via John.
• NYC Gifathon - 30 days of awesome animations from James Curran.
• Fred Armisen Accents - he runs through his myriad of Southern tones and they are surprisingly accurate.
• Bernie Sanders v Homophobic Congresman, 1995 - there's some NSFW language in here but that's entirely the point. Great to see that Bernie has been fighting the good fight like an alternate Larry David for so long.

Extremely insightful piece on
It definitely feels like a mega document that should be read a few times to properly gather all the right insight from but I really loved that they go into some specifics - i.e. "we've found that, on average, we need about one designer for every eight people writing code." That's not really hard numbers that I see very often. On the whole, I usually have a hard time with overly rigid programs for design and problem solving but these bits of bumper bowling seem flexible enough to be useful.

There's a long standing debate between which is better - CG or Practical Effects? We all know that it really boils down to how you use them. End of debate. However, that doesn't mean it's not still fun to marvel at practical effects and the artistry involved in their implementation. Enter Anti-CGI, an Instagram feed of a variety of practical effects - some amazingly impressive, some borderline questionable but all worth a gander.

Definitely some NSFW imagery in there, as to be expected with this sort of subject matter.

Ran across this great blog post the other day that I implore everyone to read that has ever struggled with self-confidence issues, particularly when making comparisons to folks you see in Entertainment or Media. Here's my favorite bit:

I thought about that, and about all the other girls and women out there whose proportions are "wrong," who can't find a good pair of work trousers, who can't fill a sweater, who feel excluded and freakish and sad and frustrated because they have to go up a size, when really the size doesn't mean anything and it never, ever did, and this is just another bullshit thing thrown in your path to make you feel shitty about yourself.

It's a simple rumination but one that probably isn't entirely obvious to everyone (myself included). I think typically it's women who get shouldered with the baggage of Looking Good At All Times but it's an issue that applies to everyone.

Maybe this is too many feels for a Thursday morning but I thought the earnest outpouring of the post made it all the more impactful and resonating.
