back in February it quickly entered into my heavy rotation and has stayed there ever since. I absolutely can not hear it enough. Now there's a new split 7" available and it fits in perfectly to my obsessive listening.
It's the perfect extra dose to start off the summer. The Austin Leonard Jones tracks that are included are quite enjoyable as well, so it's really a huge win all around.
Go listen.

I dunno how it happened but custom pins and patches seem to be blowing up across the Internet. Maybe it's the 90's nostalgia throwback movement or maybe creators just got keen to some affordable manufacturers. Probably a combination of that two. Whatever it is, groups like
Scumbags and Superstars are pumping out goods pulled straight from the doodled page of your high school notebook. Bart Simpson + Cornholio, Garbage Pail Kids, Wolfman or Kool-Aid Man wearing a Freddy Kruger glove with a skeleton hanging out inside while he doses a hit of acid.
Seriously. I can't make that up.
I'm the first to admit this kind of nostalgia reaping should be taken in small amounts but how am I supposed to
not enjoy
this insanity? I may not own it but I'm appreciative that they're making it.

So, my
ongoing saga to discover a proper personal instant streaming music + personal storage solution continues. To recap, strictly streaming libraries like Spotify or Rdio do not meet my needs. And, thus far, my experiments with a symlink'ed iTunes library folder + Dropbox have failed.*
Trusted friend of the site,
Paige Maguire-Schneider has been providing some insight into her solutions, as she is in the exact same boat as I am. Her latest find is
Audiobox, a cloud based music storage sync that pairs with Dropbox, Skydrive, Google Drive, Box and their own storage. At first glance, it looks
real promising. The only hurdle I see for it is that you have to get your entire collection actually
into the cloud first and sync'ed locally. I'm still working on that part as Dropbox can't seem to handle what I'm offering it.
I'm quite intrigued by Audiobox but, thus far, my best solution has been an external drive housing my iTunes library paired with Google Play Music. That way I get instant access when I'm at work (where the physical drive resides and I spend most of my computing time) but still have access to every single mp3 when I'm remote, as GPM is constantly sync'ing those additions into my remote account.

I've no idea what the above animated gif is from but it's incredible. Someone, please, give me some insight. Aside from that, check out these selected distractions! Oh, and if you haven't been following the

It's wonderful to see that
Upright T-Rex Music and the TwoDots team continue to release the amazing soundtrack to that game out into the world. The
second volume is now available and it's every bit the delight that the
first volume is.
Indie games with great soundtracks is not so much a rarity these days but I feel like huge popular hits, like TwoDots, having truly engaging music backing them is not so common. Congrats to Ross and Cody - they are killing it.

There's a great combination of film stock, clothing choices, and subject matter that make the work of
Richard Ramirez Jr oddly timeless. If you told me
this or
this were taken in the early 80's, I'd believe it. Or
this from the 50's, I'd buy in. It's nostalgic but also questionably from another time altogether.
According to this
post, Ramirez "prefers to take photographs of his friends or people who have a good personality. His body of work widely consists of pictures of the people he meets in the American west."
Dive through the entire
portfolio, it's a fascinating body of work.

It's unfortunate that the photos of
Garie Waltzer's
Living City collection are so small on the site because it's clear that seeing these in their originally intended format - large scale prints - really shows off their immersive nature. I love the ambiguity of much of it and the details you'd probably miss just living in these urban environments.

Yesterday was the official release of the documentary
Clouds - an immersive VR experience that allows you to explore different topics and questions tackled by a variety of artists and hackers. In other words, it's an incredible hybrid of exploratory "game" mechanics and insightful movie. You fire up the Clouds app, put on your Oculus headset and explore the space to dive into different topics. The content itself is great and the implementation is a fascinating glimpse of the future.
Watch the trailer and be sure to imagine all that imagery being all that you experience, not just pixels on a flat plane in front of you.

Lately I've been revisiting Vine for mindless morsels of entertainment and came across
OG VHS, a repository of 80's clips showcasing the absurd. It doesn't strike me as crazed as
Everything Is Terrible but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This
Primer Post fills you in on where to start with a bunch of OG VHS hashtags to find the best he has to offer. Give
this one a spin.
