Stereogum series based on "acting gigs, guest appearances, random internet ephemera, etc." Fun to hear them talk about some of the variety of their work.
Nice chat about “Transitional Apps” with Rich Harris from NYTimes. I don’t really call myself a developer anymore, largely because SPAs are so mysterious to me. This sounds so much better.
For many, many years I used to compile a Halloween mix. I made a lotofthem. A wholewholelot. It was a natural progression but I eventually shifted to making these mixes for my We Own This Town: Music podcast. I'm happy to say, the latest edition is now available.
As it is a podcast, there is some talking at the top but then it's just a solid 45 minutes of Halloween themed tracks. They're all musicians from the Nashville area so you may not be familiar with any of the names but I think you'll find it to be a pleasing listen.
At the very least, I implore you to listen to the first 30 seconds... I really went whole hog on the spooky intro.
You can hear the song selections we put together for the show over here. We are never explicit about it on the show but the entire playlist does have a continuity to it. Can you figure it out?

Over at yk Records today we released two new singles from Jasmin Kaset. She introduced these songs to me back in 2019 with a plan to release them in early 2020 but a little pandemic got in the way and they've been on hold ever since. But no more!
The tracks - "Have You Met Me Yet?" and "I Will Never Let You Go From Me" - were both staples of her live set at the time of recording. Even though it's been awhile since they've been heard live, they hold up wonderfully. I'm very biased of course but I love them both.
The Nashville Scene premiered the official video for "Have You Met Me Yet?" and you can watch it on their site or over on YouTube. It's like a fun, lo-fi, horror movie and it's perfect for October.
One of the reasons for the delay was that I could never get the artwork for the release to a place that I was happy with. Jasmin had sent me these amazing images from Bill Reynolds that paid homage to late 80's tech magazines from Yugoslovia (specifically Računari) and all my attempts felt insufficient. Fortunately, I was able to get Version Industries to put something together and the results are fantastic.
I also really wanted to treat this release as something special because it had been waiting to be released for so long. So, I had a handful of copies pressed up to lathe cut 7" vinyl. We made 20 copies and they sold out instantly. Maybe I'll make more?
That's a lot of writing about 2 new songs but these have been on my brain for almost two years. It feels great to get them out into the world and even better to see that everyone is loving them. As they should.
It's exclusive to Bandcamp until October 22nd when it hits streaming services. This was done intentionally to create a window to urge folks to buy the music. I know MP3s are passé but Jasmin certainly deserves the support.
likely not of much intrigue to those outside of Nashville but quite an entertaining read for anyone that was concerned with local music in the late 90s
