Thanks to a heads up from Paige I've been spending the morning browsing through the entirety of available works from Pat Perry. His official portfolio has a great deal of personal and professional illustrations, process notebook images and a great blog of new work. He's also got a Flickr strea filled with nearly 30 pages of illustrations and incredible photography. There's a lot to see but it's worth the time investment.

It's pretty safe to say that just about everyone under 50 is familiar with the Joy Division cover for Unknown Pleasures but the story behind it may still be unclear. Take a moment to watch designer Peter Saville explain the artwork - both the implementation of it and it's adoption into widespread culture. Fascinating stuff and a good recommendation for scouring encyclopedias for inspiring images.

If you're a semi-regular reader of this site you know that I'm always curious to investigate streaming media options. Software and services like Plex, AV Player, Air Video or Stream to Me are all worth looking into to see how they may fit into your lives.

So, when something like Streem crosses my path, I'm intrigued! It looks like a combination of Plex, Dropbox and more (i.e. searching Sidereel or Hulu) but since I've not used it yet, it's difficult to tell just exactly what it all does. The fact that it stores your media on their servers forever sounds like a blocking hurdle - I don't really want to wait for my 500gb TV drive to upload to the cloud at this time. Regardless, I'd like to see more so I signed up for the beta.

There's something strangely alluring about the color palette breakdowns provided by Movies in Color. The combination of the stills from great films and the methodical dissection of the hues is just... pleasant. This could be a great resource to discover a cinematographer or two.

Light Light may not be a household name when it comes to Known Bands but this interactive music video, Do Not Touch, for their song "Kilo" is sure to make them a bit more well known. Your role is easy - just follow the on screen instructions with your mouse and they'll record your mouse movements. Every hour they re-render the mouse movements. There's some NSFW imagery (not much) but it's worth the risk to see the swarm of crowd sourced mouse pointers.

Woah. The illustration work of Mads Berg is phenomenal. There's an incredibly engaging vintage feel to the Art Deco colors, shapes and texturing found throughout. Be sure to click into each portfolio entry for more pieces that you wouldn't want to miss.

I'm most familiar with the work of Joe McKay due to his creation of the Broken Social Scene artwork for Forgiveness Rock Record but his portfolio has plenty more to offer. Both collage work are enjoyable and I waffle between which I prefer more. Right when I think I prefer the simplicity and quotes of set one I find myself enjoying the more complex arrangements of set two. Long story short, both are great.

Lots and lots has been happening over at VHX but I wanted to take a moment to point out a few of the films we've powered recently that may be of interest to you. I am nothing if not evangelical about the great things happening at my job...

• Upstream Color - you saw Shane Caruth's Primer, right? It's his newest work in nine years and bound to be just as divisive. Equal parts baffling and rewarding and all together gorgeous looking / sounding. Seriously, check out the score.
• Wrong - a bizarre movie from Quentin Dupieux and Drafthouse Films. To say it's about the weird journey the protganist goes through after losing his dog is selling it way short. Watch this trailer and decide for yourself.
• I Am Not A Hipster - great indie flick about the San Diego music scene and "hipsterism." The trailer does a good job of showcasing the weight and levity of the whole thing. Worth investigating.

I can't say that I fully understand the logistics behind Goldbely but they claim to be able to ship tons of local foods anywhere in the nation. You want to try Jeni's Ice Cream, Dreamland BBQ, Katz's Deli or this thing? You can. I've no idea how it's packaged, how it stays fresh or what the presentation is going to be but you can get the food to your doorstep. I'm curious to try it.

Despite having heard of it for years, I'd never actually seen the live version of The Found Footage Festival. If you're not familiar, founders Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher collect various VHS footage (no youtube) and compile them together into a well-presented quasi-stand-up-comedy / DVD-of-absurdity. You can browse their site for a long time and be ridiculously entertained - I recommend you do so.

The show is currently on the road with this Brooklyn Brewery MASH tour - an eleven city tour obviously intended to put the Brooklyn Brewery brand in a "Cool" spot in your mind. The best part, it's actually well done and well worth keeping up with. It has an awesome trailer, a fine Tumblog and associations with the likes of Found Footage Fest. Not too shabby.

Everyone uses CloudApp for quick image sharing, right? Well, what if you could wrap any image from your CloudApp in various browser chrome (mobile, ipad, desktop)? Enter Cloud Comp - a handy little service that does just that. I'm sure there are other sites out there doing similar things but the fact that this is tied into software that I'm already using puts it at the top of the pile.
