Couldn't You Wait? The Story Of Silkworm.

Since 2006, my friend Seth Pomeroy has been working on a documentary about the band Silkworm. They toiled in obscurity in roughly 17 years despite having multiple albums on Matador Records and Touch & Go. It's a shame too because their music is quite good, it just never reached the cultural masses. After long last, the film sharing their story - Couldn't You Wait? The Story of Silkworm - is available for viewing.

Seth was able to get interviews with Stephen Malkmus, Jeff Tweedy, Steve Albini and a crazy list of others. He even split the film up into multiple packages depending on your fandom - $5 for just the movie or $20 for the movie and hours and hours of extra content. I'm really happy that he was able to finish this project but, moreso, happy that he was able to tell such a compelling story about the band. Watch the trailer or just get the movie.

We Own This Town: Volume 61

WOTT 61
I can not believe I'm releasing the sixty-first volume of the WOTT podcast. There was part of me that assumed I would stop at 50, or maybe 60, but there's such an overwhelming amount of great new music constantly streaming forth from the Nashville area that it's hard not share.
As with all the previous iterations it's a smattering of indie, electronic, Quality Country, post-rock and a whole range of great styles that Nashville gets sold short on.

It's another week, another playlist. Some you have, undoubtedly, seen already but I think you'll still get some enjoyment regardless. Have a great weekend everyone. Maybe I'll see you out and about.

Roy Ira Tonight

Roy Ira
Tonight Roy Ira plays The High Watt with WB Givens and Mayday Malone to celebrate the release of Still Be My Love. I realize most of you don't live in the Nashville area but just use this as a gentle reminder to maybe check out said album when you a have moment? It's hard not to love this or this (or, if you're a fan of a more serious faire, this).

Tanlines - Not The Same

TanLines - not the same
OK Focus teamed up with the band Tanlines to create this experimental music video for Not The Same. It is, essentially, a bunch of individual green screened videos but there's a level of interactivity that's just kitsch enough to captivate you for a little bit. You can read / hear more about the undertaking here but, honestly, you'll get it if you just watch it.

Criterion + Hulu

Criterion + Hulu
Well, we're all screwed. It was announced that Hulu has teamed up with the Criterion Collection and will be airing their entire library, for free, for the remainder of the weekend. It's a vast catalog but you're probably going to want to watch them all, right? Sorry if you already had plans.

Okay, even if you don't immerse yourself in quality movie binging this weekend you should peruse the cover art because it's always phenomenal and inspiring.

Adobe Edge Reflow

Edge Reflow
I don't have any plans to actually use it myself but this demo of Adobe's Edge Reflow at least shows they're making serious efforts to stay relevant. It's easy to bag on Adobe for its long, complicated history (sometimes, rightfully so) but it's hard to complain about tools that will empower more people to make the web better.
