Last year my pals at Monkey Ink Design put together some phenomenal National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation wrapping paper. This year they've continued the tradition with new Home Alone wrapping paper. You can even see how it was made in this video. Those guys have really been killing it lately with an onslaught of great designs and I'm blown away by how much they continue to impress me. It's never disappointing! Best part of it all is that you can share that wealth of enjoyment just by wrapping your presents in their designs. Brilliant move.

While I can't vouch for how well it actually works, the concept behind Karma is undeniably cool. You buy their mobile 4G hotspot device, when you use it an open Wi-Fi network is created and whenever someone connects to that network, you're rewarded with extra bandwidth. So, instead of hoarding the data share for yourself, your account gains from the social interaction. Conceptually solid and the actual device, software and website are all gorgeous looking. I don't travel quite enough to actually use it but I can think of some folk who do.

Nashville photographer Stephen Jerkins recently posted a great photo essay on WAMB Radio 1200 AM - a low-fi station run out of an apartment complex that's been operational since 1975. Their claim to fame is the infamous broadcasts of Ken Bramming - a DJ from a bygone era that played dynamic playlists that stand the test of time. Those musical lineups seem to be lost to the ether (unless WAMB wants to team up and release them digitally?) but the photo essay from Jerkins is a great look inside a great Nashville establishment. It doesn't look like a single thing has changed since they originally opened their doors.

I fully understand how annoying Kickstarter reminders can be but I really want to see this Retro Game Crunch reach its full funding. It's down to the final 72 hours and pretty close.. but close doesn't count in 8-bit videogame funding. Regardless, please give it another look and I won't mention it again (probably).

If you're going to go big on Top 10 lists summarizing a year why not go real big? TIME just went ahead and decided to list out Top 10 Everything of 2012. Best / Worst movies? Sure. Tweets? New Species? Underreported Stories? It's all there. For anyone curious how they can spend their Christmas break wasting time, here's your solution: Investigate Everything.

Are you familiar with Elepath? The Jake Lodwick incubator / startup / idea machine tosses around a number of fascinating ideas and one of the more recent is Morsel (which you can get a signup for here. It's like Mad Libs Meets Twitter. The general interface is super clean, tidy and a bit cute. I'm enjoying. I wish everyone I knew would sign up and fill out the "When In ______ city, be sure to..." question.

Late Night Work Club

This was a crazy week but, somehow, there's no shortage of insane videos to enjoy.

• Blood, Urine, Feces - why is this man training you to kill? Why is he so sure of the bodily fluids involved? From "Eyebrow to Foot" is your new phrase for the weekend.
• Fudge - awesome parody of A Christmas Story that keeps getting more ridiculous as it goes. Awesome that it was posted in 2009 and I'm just now seeing it. via Chris. Also, NSFW.
• Snowman Prank - it may be America's Funniest Home Videos level of entertainment but it's still fun to see people get spooked.
• Last Year with Deborah Harry - I never tire of John Roberts schtick. Watch this every year.
• Best Judge Judy ending - no, it's not that People's Court ending, this is Judge Judy. The very last comment is what you gotta stick around for.. but it's all pretty funny.
• How to keep cats off the counter - "take the bait... taaaake the bait." Harmless hilarity.
• Coolest Guy at the Boat Ramp - jump ahead to 1:00 and enjoy the anticipation.
• Landings at San Diego Intl Airport - so good.
• Yoko Ono - "Fireworks" (Katy Perry) - you know all those horrible things you've always heard about Yoko Ono and her artistic undertakings? This embodies them perfectly. 2:37 Endurance Challenge.

• DMX - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - it's not quite as good as this but it's entertaining.
• The Longest Word in English - 3 hours and 33 minutes of pronouncing the longest word. The most insane part is that the narrator grows a noticeable 5 o'clock shadow during the duration.
• Sporty Kyle - I love the works of Kyle in all his many forms but this character tests my patience more than most. It's entertaining but it's tough!
• Daft Punk - Electroma - in case you have an hour to spare, now you can catch the entire Daft Punk movie on youtube.

VHX is proud to present Dave Grohl's debut documentary Sound City - a look at the LA recording studio of the same name that hosted the likes of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Trent Reznor, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana and a list too long to fully include here.

It's a $10 preorder and although film won't be officially released until February 1st you get some immediate rewards right out of the gate. I had a great time designing and building the site with my fellow employees and I'm definitely proud of how it turned out.

You know you wanna see it, so why not go ahead and nab it now?

I caught this incredible design via MAVS and wanted to find out more about it. A little googling and I discover that there's a treasure trove of Computer Magazine covers awaiting discovery. The craziest part is that they seem to be all designed by one guy, Frank Yanai, of whom I can find very little information about.

tl:dr version - Look at these covers. Be inspired. Thank this guy.

The works of Carmichael Collective are pretty ridiculous but I think this Pinata Anatomy finds just the right balance between absurdity and attention grabbing immersion.

To say Royal Studio did a great job with this McCooper Studios branding is an understatement of the grandest degree. Their desired direction was "Sci-Fi + Golden Era of Steampunk with a NASA Twist." That's a mouthful of buzzwords but they seemed to nailed it, especially with the top variation featuring a mishmash of various animals.
