Maybe this is done all over the place but it's new (and brilliant) to me. Nerd Boyfriend takes various characters from film and breaks down their outfits to purchasable versions. Want to look like Vintage Cat Stevens or JAWS Era Richard Dreyfuss? Easy. There's also a Ladies version - so if you want to look like Anjelica Huston or Gilda Radner, you can.. easily.

It's unfortunate that the work of Gieves Anderson is stuck inside a framework where I can't link you directly to a particular image. The sixth and eighth images from the India series are not to be missed. Same goes for the fourth image from the Cross Reference series. So, because I can't link you straight in, you'll just have to poke around and find what works best for you. Enjoy.

Quite simply, Represent.LA is a map of startups, accelerators, coworking environments, investors and events in the greater Los Angeles area. While this may not seem very useful for anyone living outside of that zone it should be noted that it's running on the open source Represent Map, which could be used for any area. Thus, making it an incredibly handy reference tool. I think Nashville may need this.

This Kill Art. Trust Design series of images from Antoni Tudisco is intense to say the very least. I wish these wildly busy creations existed in the 3D world, as I imagine there'd be something vaguely grotesque about them.

As I mentioned before, I am pretty excited for the release of Disney's Wreck-It Ralph - the story looks fine but the inclusion of loads of videogame characters from across the universe of gaming is even better (cameo's everywhere!). To that end, KillScreen has a great article on acquiring the rights to all those characters and how director Rich Moore made it happen. The answer is surprisingly non-corporate.

Tumblogs filled with images lacking attribution are a dime a dozen but A Variety of Things does a good job of pointing back to where things came from. The title is apt, as the images run a wide gamut - animated gifs of Adam Scott, NSFW ladies, boats, multi-exposure tigers and Ultraman. Long story short, it's a good one to follow along for a little Spice Of Life.

I'm still trying to properly wrap my brain around all the events of the XOXO Fest but it's a whole lot to consume. I can not possibly imagine the level of work that Andy Baio and Andy McMillian put into organizing (and running) the entire thing but it felt flawless. They didn't even appear that stressed during the entirety of the event! Huge credit to them for understanding what makes a conference work and focusing on that. I can't think of a single legitimate complaint regarding anything they had control over.

Overall, I'd say the theme running throughout the conference was People. Basically, useless middle men are no longer needed for our creative endeavors because we can directly socialize with each other and make things happen. Marketing from creation to end user is a 1:1 relationship. As Dan Harmon put it, the Internet is made of people; and they're the most important thing. This might sound overly simplistic but it's that kind of thinking that empowers the disruption we're seeing in so many different industries right now.

Speaking of said People, I am incredibly pleased to have met Jez Burrows, Adam Lisagor, Joshua Blount, Josh Randall, these two and absolutely everyone else. It was a blast and I imagine it's only going to get better if they do it again (which they totally should).

As we've established, I'm a huge fan of Grandaddy / Jason Lytle. So, it was entirely surprising and delightful to find out that he has a new album coming out on Oct 16th. You can preorder Dept. of Disappearance in a number of formats and while you wait for it to arrive I suggest watching the video for "Your Final Setting Sun" on repeat. It's exactly what you want from a Jason Lytle song.

On my last trip out of town I thought I'd finally dive into the latest Chuck Klosterman novel, The Visible Man. I finished it before I touched down in Portland, it was too good to put down for a moment. The basic story premise is of therapist Victoria Vick and her encounter with a new patient; one who claims to have the ability to be entirely unseen. This allows him to see the true self of those he observes. You can check out an excerpt of it here. There's also a trailer for it but I suggest you not watch it - as you really don't need to have your own personal vision of the characters swayed.

My only complaint about the novel would be that I wish it were longer. There's plenty of room for even more anecdotes on the subjects observed and I'd like to read them all.

As an excellent bit of promotion to spread the word on Beauty Is Embarrassing, the phenomenal documentary on artist Wayne White, the team has released an iOS app - Words With Wayne. With it, you can create your own versions of the huge text paintings that Wayne is best known for.

The app looks simple and fun but I implore you to see the film, if it's playing near you please go see it.

• Worst Family Feud Answers - lets go ahead and get this out of the gate right away. It is superb in so many ways. Game show bloopers are the best kind of bloopers.
• Collective Soul Cat - if this were the tiniest bit shorter it would easily be the World's Greatest Cat Video Mashed Up with a Semi-Terrible mid-90's Rock Song. I think it goes without saying how much I love this.
• Mitt Romney Little Face - I don't care that this is Mitt Romney, I just love the little face. Perfect.
• Billy Lavoie - the first half of this video is all you really need to see. I feel kind of bad for this guy now that this is out in the world but he was one helluva sassy kid.
• GoPro Stolen By Seagull - how did they retrieve this camera?? I want animals to steal more technology, pls.
• Screaming Sheep - waaaaaait for it.
• Jon Contino - this video is just a phenomenally inspiring bit of profiling on the great Jon Contino. His enthusiasm and drive is inspiring, his work is out of this world.

So, if all went as planned, you should be seeing a freshly redesigned version of yewknee (those of you reading from the RSS, please check it out). I promised myself I would have it done before I departed for XOXO and I'm on my way out the door. Is the site 100% complete? No way. Is it a vast improvement over the prior design that had been in place since 2007? Yes, I believe so. I'd rather go ahead and "ship" this rather than try to tie up all the loose ends.

Please note the addition of, for lack of a better name, the Syndicated Feed in the right hand sidebar. It's a combination of links from Twitter, Delicious, Vimeo, Youtube and, eventually, more. It was inspired by the likes of Andy Baio, Robbie Player and Stellar.It will allow me to be adding new content to the site throughout the day - even if I'm not actively blogging (or if I'm out of town).

There are, undoubtedly, bugs present in this design but I wanted to go ahead and get it out there rather than try to perfect every single little thing. The rough spots will be smoothed as we move forward. I hope you like it. I'm proud to finally have something new for you.

The folks over at United Pixelworkers have relaunched their site and I'm loving it. The Collection of tees is easy to browse (and fun to sort), the Roll Call is a simply brilliant way to get customers to interact with you and, most importantly, the shirt designs themselves are perfect.

Oh, and the responsive design is super nice. Be sure to scale your browser around.

You can watch the teaser video for Wonderputt but I'm telling you, right now, you don't need to be teased into it. Just take my word for it - stop doing whatever it is you're doing now and go play. It's a putt putt game similar to many other games of its ilk in terms of how you play it but the illustrations and animations are Best In Show, for sure. You can get it on your ipad starting Thursday (9/13) but why wait?

Garrett sent over the heads up to check out Tunaspot - a new Spotify app that allows you to link a playlist with a physical location. Once you add the app you can browse around your area (or any other geolocation) and find playlists associated with specific homes, businesses or wherever. It's possible that the interface could get very cluttered, very quickly but, for now, it's a nice collection of playlists associated with areas.

It's easy to see this being used to preview music for a local record store or venue or specific event. I can even see it being fun to share a playlist from a recent house party. At the very least, it's a new way to discover some music and worth clicking around in for a few minutes.

The portfolio of photographer Ulric Collette is pretty impressive but the most compelling bit is her Genetic Series that blends photos of related individuals into one wholly new person. While it's unsurprising to know that people with similar DNA actually look alike it is still impressive to see them pair together so well.

Yesterday, Hype Machine launched HMTV, their video player powered by VHX and their own insider aggregate of popular videos. You can read more about how it came be here or just dive right in. We are stoked to be a part of such a great collab. HypeMachine has always been a favorite and it's great to see them continuously making new, compelling things.

I love Cobra Creative - they're good people doing extremely admirable work. They've recently launched a new site and I can't implore you enough to go dig into it - I love the immersive full-browser experience they've created. It's simple, elegant and, best of all, not frustrating to use (often a serious problem with these kinds of sites). The work pages are particularly nice but I like it all.. even the contact slide-down speaks to me.
