Take some time to browse through the works of Belarus photographer Pavel Tereshkovets. Most of the collections contain sparse, open images - often dealing with the notion of lonliness or isolation. I'm a fan of the White Silence and Nowhere land series - the latter in particular given the impending seasonal winter weather looming.

Debbie Carlos has always done great work but it's really didn't strike me how great of an idea her BW Poster Series was until right now. The super large format prints emerge from an architectural plotter - not the worlds most versatile style printer but one that helps aid in the overall vibe of the prints. There are too many great ones in the shop to pinpoint exactly which I'd recommend but be sure not to miss the two new owl prints if you're on your way over there.

The work of Greg Brotherton, aka Brotron, is an impressive slew of crafting. The somewhat creepy characters that spring from his mind have elements of sci-fi, steampunk, Tim Burton,etc. I love the pieces that are obviously born from antique items like the above pictured telephone and calculator. Remember this phenomenal trailer for a non-existent action movie made as a tribute to Moustache May? Well, that's the fine work of Chad McClarnon (remember?). He's recently posted a Kickstarter fund to help gather the money to submit two of his short films to roughly 30 film festivals. You can watch trailers for both films and get details on where exactly the money is going here. I think it's great that he's not looking to fund the creation of either film - they already exist - he's just looking for help to get the word out about them in a larger fashion.

Bonus fun fact: Uncle Skeleton did the score for A New Life. So, by supporting Chad you're also supporting them and, by proxy, supporting me in a roundabout way!

If you count yourself among the masses of people rather unhappy with the latest changes in Google Reader you may be able to hold on to the dream for a little bit longer with the implementation of ReaderSharer - a Chrome extension / Firefox script that does its best to bring back the functionality that's been stripped away. It's not perfect but it may help the painful transition of change.

While I can absolutely understanding something like this Card Case app from Square raising the ire of luddites everywhere I can't help but be smitten with it. The app allows you to walk into any merchant using the Square device and use voice verification to make your purchases. Privacy concerns, potential hacks and Big Brother style conspiracy theories aside this is the stuff that proper Science Fiction dreamed of years ago and we're actually seeing it happen. Pretty phenomenal if you ask me. Watch the video.

• Liz Curtis Higgs Intro - remember when everyone had a talk show? We should all miss those times... even if we shouldn't really miss those times.
• Herman Cain: Bad Lip Reading - another massively successful overdub. Before anyone calls foul that I'm harping on Conservatives too much with my enjoyment of these - there is an Obama version but it's, honestly, not as funny.
• Breaking Bad: Perfect Pizza Shot - if you've not seen Season 3 of Breaking Bad you may want to skip this because it is one of the finest moments in television. Perfection.
• Surfer Almost Swallowed By Whale - it really isn't as extreme as the title would have you believe but it is terrifying to think if you were actually there rather than watching a video of actually being there.
• Skinemax - SmashTV put together this massive mix of worthwhile dance / electronic music set to loads of clips of your favorite movies from your childhood. Is it harping on your love of nostalgia? Yes. Is it effective and a joy to watch? You betcha.
• Danger 5 Trailer - I believe Danger 5 is a TV show shown on SBS but it's hard to imagine something so great being a legit show. Keep your eyes peeled for it.. looks awesome.

Recently, mobile food trucks have been taking off in the Nashville area. They're old hat in places like Portland, NY, SF, etc but we're always a bit behind the curve here in the South so it's just starting to take off. I thought it would be great if there was a site that monitored all the food trucks twitter accounts and mapped their geodata on to a Google Map so you could easily reference where they are. So I slapped together Mobile Eats - a site that does exactly that. The problem is that only two of the 40 trucks actually post their geodata with their tweets. Why? I've no idea. It's not hard.

So, the site is ready to go but without the support of the trucks posting their proper locations it's fairly useless. There are other sites doing roughly the same thing but I think Mobile Eats is doing it better and more efficiently. Now, I've just got to drum up the support of the community and potentially educate some folks on how to properly use their Twitter application. If it never takes off, so be it, I learned a lot. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Rather enjoying this series, India Song, from Karen Knorr. It, along with several other series, merge "analogue and digital photography" to recreate fables and popular culture references. In other words, there's some gorgeous photography of a particular space collaged with various animals and entities that tell an ambiguous but familiar story. Right?

So, I watched this PBS Documentary last night - Steve Jobs: One Last Thing and, on the whole, have some mixed feelings about it. It doesn't do a very good job of showing a comprehensive look at all the innovations that Apple was involved in but it does provide some rather candid interviews and footage that are worth seeing. Interviewing Eddie Izzard seemed weird but the anecdotes from Pixar's Dr. Alvy Smith and close friend Walt Mossberg were great. There's also a small amount of footage from a rare interview with Jobs giving these inspiring words:

When you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is, and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life. Have fun, save a little money. That's a very limited life. Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is everything around that you call life was made up by people who were no smarter than you. And you can change it. You can influence it. You can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you'll never be the same again.

Granted, it's easier to say such things when you're a multi-millionaire before you're 25 but it's rather convincing when you hear him say it. Jobs probably gets put on a pedestal more than he should but there's no denying his passion and his conviction.

All and all, the whole thing just wanted me to watch this Bill Gates, Steve Jobs interview that Mossberg did in 2007. I've never seen it in its entirety and it looks like the more worthy thing to watch.

How am I just now hearing of this Bootstrap Toolkit from Twitter? Maybe I assumed it was this project of the same name.. also built with LESS but not the same Less. Okay, yea, now I see how I could have gotten confused.

Long story short, this Bootstrap is intended to speed up the development of sites by including a robust (and very nice looking) base for typography, forms, buttons, grids, etc. etc. Andy Baio was able to build Supercut.org in an evening using the toolkit - that's a helluva recommendation as far as I'm concerned.

Buddy Hughen is a talented guy. He helped to create both of the superb albums from Eureka Gold and is currently touring the nation with Tristen. So, when seeing that he had posted a few tracks from his upcoming solo project Sharpneck I was quite excited. Granted, it's only two songs but they deliver in every way that I'd hope for them to. Really looking forward to the full release... whenever that may be.

I, admittedly, know very little about Adventure Time - aside from its premiere short I don't think I've seen a full episode (though I've always enjoyed clips). Despite that, I know a good diorama when I see one and this Finn and Jake Treehouse is one such example. Enjoy.

Even if you're not in the market for a new Mac charger of any kind you should probably take a moment to enjoy this PlugBug design from Twelve South. Thus far, every product they've created has been a winner both visually and functionally to me (even if I don't need it, I see the goodness in the intent). Even this ridiculous BookCase for iPhone is kind of appealing as a wallet.. despite the fact that I'd feel like a real dummy when actually speaking on the phone.

If you're a designer - particularly a UI designer - please force yourself to take the time today to read through this A List Apart article on Dark Patterns: Deception vs Honesty in UI Design. Principles such as Aid Rapid Comprehension or Prevent User Mistakes seem quite obvious on the surface but the level of subversion and underhandedness that occurs on many sites speak directly against these ideas.

Once you're done with that, take a little trip through DarkPatterns.org that not only describes many of the nefarious tactics but also has a company list of businesses involved in these undertakings.

• src-img - a little bookmarklet that enables you to reverse image search an image to potentially identify its original source (or, at the very least, find out more about it). If you're a regular Tumblr user, this seems essential.
• manifestR - an HTML5 appcaching script that aids you in easily creating an offline cache for apps; which, in turn, makes them load faster.
