French designer Jean-Marie Massaud proposed this flying dirigible hotel back in 2008. The Manned Cloud looks like a flying whale but I'm not sure it will ever come to fruition. It'd be nice if it was more than just a few dreamy images but if that's all the world gets, I'll take it.

I wouldn't say that I consider myself an avid reader of Korean Zombie Comics but if they're all as cleverly execuuted as this 2011 Short Mystery I can see the allure. Put some headphones on and scroll through the site. You may not understand the text but you'll get the greatness of the execution when you see it.

From the 21 Top Tools for Responsive Web Design that Chad sent over to me I investigated a bit deeper into the Golden Grid System. Basically, it's a setup very similar to 960gs or Boilerplate but it uses the LESS Framework as its base. At the very least, read through the "Many useful tips" posted along with the code - namely "Don't use GGS as it is. Take it apart, steal the parts that you like, and adapt them to your own way of work." Solid advice that makes me want to use it even more than ever.

• Pure CSS Carousel - cross fading images is a pretty standard implementation but I've never seen it done entirely with CSS. The "~" selector was a new one to me.
• 21 Top Tools for Responsive Web Design - lots of good links in here, all of which seem to be worth taking a peek at.

Stop what you're doing, browse over to the portfolio of Eric Slatkin and spend some time going through each entry. There's a great balance of art project undertakings, design executions, photography collections, music compilations, mini documentaries and more. It sounds overwhelming but it's perfectly engaging.

I don't wear near as many t-shirts these days as I used to but after Renaud showed me the Quote Series of tees from The General's Surplus I am considering a few purchases. Love the simple designs and the fact that they aren't trying to be clever - just well made.

• -webkit-font-smoothing - I've played around a little with this webkit tag and it seems to have some decent results. It's always a bummer when you fiddle with making your fonts look nice and then remember that PC's will continuously look like crap no matter what.
• Brightmix Icons - I stumbled upon this icon set the other day and was bummed to find that the Download All link was dead. Fortunately, I found it elsewhere - so, if you want them, you can get them here.

It's time to close up shop on the 2011 Summer Mix Series. I don't think there was quite the fever surround it this year as there may have been in years past but I guarantee you there was absolutely no shortage of actual music. Be sure to check out the final two mixes - Music to Wake To and Pacific - as they came in right under the wire and are absolutely deserving of your ear time.

I have plenty of favorites from the series but I will quickly recommend that you snag Fifty Cents for your Soul and Delinquent! if you haven't already (they are somewhat recent submissions as well).

By no means do I consider myself a music nerd of unparalleled knowledge - there is plenty of trivial information floating around out there that I am completely ignorant to. However, upon learning about Percy Thrillington - the pseudonym of Paul McCartney that released an arranged instrumental version of Ram in 1977 (recorded in `71) I was ashamed that I wasn't already aware! Long story short, Ram is a phenomenal album and the Thrillington version is entirely engaging as well; mostly for the music but also for the absurdity of McCartney releasing an album of his own music under a different name and not openly talking about it for 18 years.

You can listen to the entire thing on YouTube and apparently a CD re-issue came out in 1995. Why it is not available as an mp3 download is beyond me but I am sure you can stumble across it if need be.

The concept behind the Three Company's Sleep No More is to present a modernized version of Macbeth in a three story warehouse where the actors are constantly milling about and the audience is integrated right along with them - as long as they wear their ghost mask and remember that they can't interact with the actors. I suggest reading through some of the reviews and watching this Behind the Scenes video to get a mild grasp of what's happening. Even if I never experience it myself, I'm highly appreciative of images such as this one just by themselves.

The other day I stumbled across this Webkit plugin for Disruptive Footnotes - which is so brilliant I am perplexed how it had not been done before (it makes footnotes actually usable on the web instead of just annoying text you find in the footer). Turns out, the smart folks behind that plugin also run their own Open Ideas blog full of similarly clever ideas - like Cloud Clipboard or a Smart TV. My only complaint? The ideas are so good that I want more ideas.

I find something enjoyable about every single episode of the WTF Podcast that I've heard. However, the 200th Episode just came around in my iTunes and I'm really impressed by Maron's ability to be able to take the hotseat himself and answer questions. He is a superb interviewer (evidenced by the Amy Poehler, Paul Reiser, Aubrey Plaza, and Conan O'Brien episodes to name a few) but the insight you get into his own life pales in comparison to when he's doing the majority of talking. On the whole, I find the simplicity of the WTF phenomena (interviewing comics openly and honestly) to be engaging and it's nice to hear straight from the creators mouth why it works.

Some weeks are better than others and this week has no shortage of greatness. Some may say it's quantity over quality but I'd argue that there's something for everyone. Be sure to watch the Bonus Videos too.

• Most Bites of 3 Apples While Juggling Them in 30 Seconds - turns out Brian Pankey can take 65 consecutive bites from an apple while juggling. Also, his face is hysterical while doing so. via Matt.
• Japan World Cup 3 - don't ask to explain it. Just enjoy the prancing horse, the flopping seal, the yeti, the trojan horse and the insane musical performance.
• Al Bundy Cat - lewd but amusing.
• Divine Rags of Wolfchase Galleria Mall of Memphis - local, somewhat awkward, commercials can always win out. The kiss / laugh at the end really takes it to new heights. via Paul.
• SawStop Hot Dog Demo - if you were planning on sawing a hot dog anytime soon you may want to consider not procuring the SawStop blade.
• PonPonPon - this music video is crazy enough just for the first 30 seconds but, as it progresses, it gets crazier and darker and way weirder (if that's even possible). via Chad.
• Captain Awesome vs Artillery Shell - basically some dumb kids doing some dumb thing resulting in amusement. Fortunately they filmed the stupidity from a number of angles so you get to enjoy it over and over.
• Man Dances at Rave - wild abandon, he has it.
• Wololo - I dare you to let this play for the entire 10 minutes. It's entrancing.

The portfolio of Misty Woodford is sparse on the details but two things are obvious: 1) She's using a Polaroid 230 Land Camera and 2) she takes phenomenal photos that speak for themselves. The New Normal set seems to focus on people more while Primarily Blue seems to capture more environments / cityscapes / etc. In the end, it may just be her running photography portfolio of images captured - no intentional thematic ties between them but I'm rather enjoying them.

Project 12:31. A photographic series concept by Franck Schott and Cross Gagnon. In 1993, a convicted murderer was executed. His body was given to science, segemented and photographed for medicial research. In 2011, we used photography to put it back together.

Once you see The Process, the whole thing becomes less gruesome sounding and more of just a technically impressive feat!

Skrekkogle is an Oslo design firm undertaking a number of artful projects worth taking a look at. Their Big Money and Cremation Portrait undertakings are fascinating (I mean, seriously, a portrait created with actual ashes.. neat!). However, I will admit to being the most smitten with their Solitaire Win Sculpture - a three-dimensional recreation of the Windows 95 Solitaire Win Screen. It perfectly captures that feeling from the actual game.

This Revolights project has already met its goal so you can read through the proposal without a feeling of guilt for not monetarily contributing. The basic idea is to provide smarter lighting for bikes through a rather clever (and simple to install) device that is being developed. The video demonstrates the beta device about 1:40 in - go take a peek. The lights look, and function, great while in motion but look a little awkward when stopped. Regardless, now that funding has been achieved it would be cool to see these out and about.

It may look pretty uneventful but this video captures a newly discovered Eel thats closest ancestor is 200 million years old. In other words, this little guy resembles the structure of previously discovered fossils more than anything else in the books. His kind swam with the dinosaurs. Pretty amazing stuff if you ask me.
