Nashville's Smallest Art Gallery put up a new show last night from Victor Samuel Huckabee, aka Pope Saint Victor. The show, Something New in the Places You See Everyday, is comprised of twelve tiny photos - and they're all great! Once you've checked out the pieces in the show, be sure to swing by Victor's Tumblr, Flickr and official site.

The fine folks at An Event Apart and MIX Online are having a contest in which they challenge you to create a site utilizing responsive layouts and only 10k total for all images, scripts and markup. The #1 reward is $3,000 but, really, it's the pride of knowing you made something so small that was impressive enough to trump all the others. Intriguing to say the least! Check it out.

Would you classify these vehicles in the Derringer Bespoke collection as motorized bicycles? Mopeds? Miniature motorcycles? The classification is unknown (to me) but their design is phenomenal - based on the racing bikes of the 1920's and each custom built they exude a nostalgia that's hard to deny. There's a nice writeup on the technical specs of the bikes here and several great galleries of the different styles here, here and here.

I've never considered myself much of an enthusiast in this realm of transportation but I'll admit to being quite smitten with what I'm seeing.

Loving this video for Toro Y Moi's "How I Know" (from Underneath the Pine). It's nice to see Kyle Mooney, Daniel Franzese and Ashkahn Shahparnia cast together and doing their best Haunted House / Scooby-Doo throughout. I don't know much about the ghost gals - Rebecca Coleman and Bebe Zeva - but they do a fine job as well. On the whole, it's a great video. I'm so glad the world doesn't need MTV anymore to be exposed to such greatness.

Just a heads up, the 2011 Summer Mix Series will be ending on August 26th. That leaves three full weeks to get your act together and complete your mix (myself included in that). This years series hasn't felt as "nuts" as previous iterations but I like it that way.. a steady stream of quality, rather than a torrential onslaught of mediocrity.

Street artist JR is likely best known for his TED Talk in which he proposed his Inside Out Project - a global initiative to get people to take portraits of themselves, receive large scale posters of the images and then post them up in public. It is quite an undertaking that seems to be going well. Beyond that, his own work consists of absolutely enormous pieces posted in places around the world. Browsing through his Project portfolio you see images that take up the entire side of buildings, or overtake an entire train car. It's insane. I assumed most had to be projections because of their scale but, upon further inspection, it appears that they're permanently wheat-pasted in place.

Big congrats to Jeremy Davis for his "appearance" on Letterman last night. Granted, it was the cover art for Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside and their album Dirty Radio - not an actual Jeremy cameo - but still a prideful moment. Glad his work is being seen by such an audience; even if it's fleeting.

This video showcasing the head stability of a Brown Owl is likely something I should save for the Friday Videos depot but it's too fascinating not to share immediately. See also, the GIF version.

Shut Up Little Man! is a documentary about two friends who rented a cheap SF apartment in the late 80's and found that their arguing neighbors provided endless hours of argumentative entertainment. So, they taped them. The tapes ended up making the rounds and become an underground fascination. Based on these sample clips it looks like it will be entertaining in that highly-vulgar sort of way.

It is unfortunate that the Smashing Magazine site has always looked / felt like one of those sites designed to function purely as link bait but typically has some pretty legit content. I can't recall the number of times I've found some intriguing rundown of scripts or, in this latest case, repository of worthwhile free typefaces. In that one post alone I see four or five typefaces that I could easily use in future projects. I dunno if that's embarrassing for me or for them but, regardless, the content is good.. it's just sometimes hard to admit.

I'll be honest, I haven't actually tried out the Snapseed app yet but it comes highly recommended by a trusted source. Photo manipulation apps can be a tricky source of ire for a lot of people but having used the likes of Mill Colour, Hipstamatic, Pano and (lately) Magic Hour, I know that it can be done well. I am a bit hesitant to spend $5 on an app that, likely, does the same thing as other free apps but it's entirely plausible that it does it better - and that's worth a lot.

Much to my surprise, the Blackberry Touch website is phenomenal. The desktop experience is quite nice but it's quite impressive how well it translates to a touch interface. Granted, it's a website promoting touch screen devices so it should translate well but it's surprising that they actually pulled it off. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that it's more engaging on a touch device than it is with a mouse. Inspiring!

For roughly five years, Daniel and I have conversed, debated and attempted to put together a site for ridiculous speculative inquiries called Ever In History but it's been vacant for forever. Until now. We've launched the first teaser of the site and are asking you to help us build the database of inquiries. Just tweet a question tagged with #EIH or directed towards @EverInHistory. The list is constantly growing and we'd love to have your question included.

I am incredibly proud to present the portfolio site for North Southern Films, the video production company headed by my pal Andy Snyder. I've worked with Andy on other projects - such as Lake Fever Sessions and the music video for Regal Son - so when he asked me to help him put together a site I was more than happy to oblige. I am very pleased with how it turned out and consider it one of the shining gems of my growing portfolio.

If you don't feel like clicking around the site you should, at the very least, watch the Intro Video that plays in the header. It's a gorgeous compilation of clips showcasing a load of works Andy has been involved in. Love it.

Go hire him, he's phenomenal at what he does.

I've watched the trailer for Bellflower several times now and I'm still not entirely sure what to make of it. The movie is an odd combination of coming-of-age love story, Mad Max desert antics and some muscle car lovers exposition. The whole film was shot on hand-made cameras that give it a unique look. I am, to say the least, curious to see the whole film.

• Adobe Edge Debut - this new piece of software enables you to create timeline based animations that export out to HTML5 / Javascript / SVG. It's been done before (poorly) and I'm skeptical that it can ever be something that is bandwidth efficient. In the end, this may end up being the first stab at creating "rich" banner ads that aren't Flash based. Let's see if they can keep it going.
• Aloha Editor - just ran across this and am curious if it's meant to be a replacement for something like CKEditor or more of design tool like Dreamweaver or Coda? The demo is actually rather nice... food for thought.

Shaun Inman is a man known for many good things including - but not limited to - Mint Stats, Fever RSS and Mimeo - a game that I was quite excited for but never came to fruition (maybe someday). Fortunately, he's taken on a new game undertaking - The Last Rocket - and it appears to be a fun puzzle game with the same 8-bit graphic style as Mimeo. Hopefully this one hits the App Stores sooner rather than later.

This weekend I finally got around to watching the BBC4 documentary The Secret Life of Chaos in which Prof. Jim Al-Khalili investigates the notion of order coming from chaos - the root of our very existence. It's, obviously, a very lofty subject and I can't say that I fully comprehend all of the topics covered but it's incredibly well done and very engaging to watch. I believe the entire thing is viewableonline, so maybe take some time to watch it.

If you had told me a week that Colonel Sanders official site was a well designed, grid-based, thoughtful undertaking with plenty of legitimate content that doesn't push the latest KFC product in your face I would have called you a liar. However, here it is and it fits all those criteria (love the nav sorting).
