The layout and navigation experience at Grip Limited is quite unique. Lots of columns, lots of arrow keys, scroll wheeling and occasionally dragging around. On the whole, it's pretty much brilliant. Occasionally I feel like it's really bogging down my browser with so much going on but it's a worthy tradeoff for such a fun experience. Try collapsing some of the columns for a bit speedier browse through.. lots of good content to discover.

I rarely speak much of fashion here but I do have interest in a well cut shirt, an interesting jacket or a classy watch from time to time. In order to satiate my interest in such topics I turn to My Little Gentleman - a tumblog that always delivers the goods and recently underwent a quality redesign. Check this About message:

The fine crew at A Book Apart have released CSS3 For Web Designers and it's available for purchase now (shipping on Nov 22nd). If the book is even half as good as HTML5 for Web Designers it will be a worthwhile addition to any nerds library. You can preview it if you like but I'm just going to go ahead and order it immediately.

Occasionally (rarely) I receive promotional items due to running this here blog. I can say, without a doubt, the best I've received is the crow pictured above - a send up for the Chris Morris film Four Lions. I've written about said film / director before but I would like to take this moment to stress that you should make an effort to go see it. Greg over at Must Warn Others gave me the heads up on the launching of a new portfolio site for Las Vegas documentary photographer Tiffany Brown. The photos contained in her portfolio are compelling on their own but, interestingly enough, the way they chose to present them on the site is that every image is paired with another - creating a visual connection of sorts; even if none existed originally. Some of the pairings are poignant, others are somewhat silly, some are bizarre but mostly they just make sense. Give it a whirl!

Seeing something equally ridiculous and incredible from Everything Is Terrible! is hardly a surprise anymore. However, Defenestration The Movie really caught my eye.. I mean, how often do you see seven and a half minutes of people being throw out of windows? Rarely, that's how often. Some time ago I posted about a batch of gorgeous polaroids from Grant Hamilton. Mostly focused on stripes of color and a bit of texture, their appeal is entirely in their simplicity. Turns out many of those images (and many more) are available in Mr. Hamilton's online shop - where each Polaroid has been scanned, transferred to a Fuji Print and encased in a Plexiglass case capable of standing on its down. Prints like this seem like a real steal at $30..

This morning I awoke to a notification that Chad had added me as a friend on Google Hotpot. I thought, "That's great! What is Google local recommendation engine." From what I've seen so far it's a list of places near you that you can rate and write comments about.. with additional "please rate this" options that appear based on previous feedback. Thus far, I'm underwhelmed. Regardless, I'll keep plugging away at the system to see if it turns up any surprising results....

Jon Rafman runs a single serving Tumblr called 9 Eyes; offering up some of the absolute best captures from Google Street View that I've had the pleasure to run across. There are plenty of Slice of Life images; crazy occurrences that it's hard to believe were happening right when the Google Van drove by but there are also a substantial amount of just artistic and beautiful captures. I find myself continually browsing deeper and deeper into the archives, never the least bit bored by what I'm seeing. Truth is stranger than fiction I suppose!

I realize I've seen this before but it still feels fresh to me.. and just as entertaining.

Dan recently informed me of a hidden Internet gem called Pates Tapes; a longtime music fans mixtape collection put online for your streaming enjoyment. I am sure there is some genius musician behind the whole thing but, honestly, ignorance is getting the best of me on this one. It's actually hard to pinpoint exactly what it is that is so instantly appealing about these mixes but, from what I've experienced thus far, they are. Great, that is. I suggest picking one in a style you have some vague interest in (i.e. Jazz, Pop Salon, Hits) and experiencing the goodness being offered.

I love a good compilation of overused movie cliches. Sometimes you have No Signal, sometimes you get the Mirror Scare or sometimes you just Look Like Sh*t. The video does a great job of lumping all the subtle changes to the phrase together as it rolls along.. keeps you watching.

The New York Times posted a great Interactive piece that enables you to Fix the Budget. Or, rather, comb through a load of the options on the table to attempt to balance it. Aside from showing how difficult it can be to come up with a proper plan it's also extremely informative just to see how many different plans / options exist in general. Highly recommended.

If We Don't, Remember Me is a repository of subtle animated gifs taken from various films. The more underplayed the animation, the better. There is an unexplainable surrealness to the looping nature of the images.. so I won't even try. Just go and enjoy.

Blankenship hit me up with an invite to Quora over the weekend and I've slowly been checking it out. At it's core, it's a lot like Yahoo! Answers in that questions are asked of a community, said community answers back with their best insight and others Up Vote certain responses if they agree. It's kind of like Hunch in that there is an unexplainable time wasting aspect of it where you just find yourself trolling for questions that you can answer. You wouldn't think it would be so compelling but it's a worthwhile distraction.

While I'm not one for ruining movie magic, I can't deny the appeal of these behind the scenes photos from various classic ILM projects. Seeing how ET's ship was composed as a small scale model is absolutely fascinating. It's sad that these days most of this kind of work would just be done in front of a computer, instead of crafted into a perfect miniature. The insight on T2 and Jurassic Park is neat but it's nowhere near the level of fascinating that occurs with clever depth of field, matte paintings and stop motion.

The work of Zoe Williams often skirts a line between cute and extremely creepy - as best exhibited by the mounted mutated rabbit heads shown above. There's a softness to it but you wouldn't want to touch it. It is, in my opinion, a difficult balance to achieve but a highly enjoyable one when done right.

• Webcam amusement - we've all done it but it's great to see someone so amused by the dumb iSight effects offered by Apple.
• Casteller - every two years in Tarragona, Spain teams gather together to see who can create the worlds largest human pyramid. Aside from being insanely impressive for a number of reasons it's also fairly amusing to watch the structures collapse under their own weight. No one gets hurt and it looks to be a good time. Kind of a feel good video of the day imo.
• Annoying Eagle - why do I find this amusing? I can not tell.. but I do.
• Middle School Football Trick Play - I think this one has already made its Internet rounds but it's new to me.. and if football were always this amusing, I'd consider actually watching it.

• Action! - "Sandpiper" - official full length video from one of my favorite local acts of the year. It's a bit on the weird side.. but it's a good one.
• You! Look At Me! - try to watch this without loving it. I dare you.

What happens when you combine the concept of FFFFound and have it curated by various designers / artists? Buamai is what happens. Created by Michael Paul Young / YWFT the site has had a whole bunch of different curators bringing various inspirational goods to the table. I like that it gives credit to the original creators instead of just being a stream of images with no reference. Otherwise, how could I find out about more stuff like this? The Top50 is an odd combination of nude women and odd Photoshop creations - which is kind of a bummer because the site is better than that. Give it a browse, I bet you find something fantastic.
