Friday Videos - May 8th, 2020

posted May 8, 2020 #

You may be asking yourself - what's up with the lack of Friday videos last week? Why isn't my tiny dose of blog entertainment coming on the regular schedule I am used to?! I hear you but, frankly, I've been underwater with my job, my side projects and trying to actually give myself some space to relax offline.

That said, I hear you. I'll do my best to use that offline time to find plenty of stupid stuff to watch. Such as the following. Not exactly a funny video but this New York Christmas, 1976 piece is 20 minutes long and brings me great comfort. Maybe it will for you, too.

Stay safe out there.

Meadownoise - Cliff House Kids

posted May 8, 2020 #

Last week I posted about a bunch of Bandcamp exclusives that went up thanks to the waived fee. Now I'm happy to announce that the Meadownoise EP for Cliff House Kids is now streaming on all the platforms.
Give it a spin on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon Music or wherever you like to hear music.

The title track, "Cliff House Kids", is a beautiful falsetto number paired with an album track and a b-side which may be a bit more challenging but give a good representation of the forthcoming LP, Threeve. They remind me of a blend of The Books and Charles Spearin. The final track is a remix from Coupler, which - for me - is always a treat.

Enjoy!

Bandcamp Exclusives, May 2020

posted May 1, 2020 #

With Bandcamp waiving their fees again today, we’re running a super special sale over at yk Records and announcing several exclusive releases to the platform. Here’s the rundown of goodies..

Buy One, Get One Vinyl Sale

If you buy any vinyl from a yk Records artist today, I’ll throw in a bonus LP for free. I won’t tell you what the bonus LP will be but you’ll get free music. If you don’t like it, give it to a friend!

Meadownoise - Cliff House Kids EP

Happy to announce Meadownoise has joined the yk Records roster and we’re releasing his first new music in six years. The Cliff House Kids EP is a preview of his forthcoming LP, Threeve. The tracks within are 2 album tracks, 1 B-side and a remix by the always enjoyable Coupler. Available here.

DM Stith - Waving 1 - 4

Recorded in April 2020, this collection of four instrumental tracks features DM Stith vocal explorations in a longform and meditative manner. It’s contemplative, calming and perfect for our current times. Strings provided by Paul Wiancko. Available here.

The Medium - Here’s Our Gravy Tape

Four demo recordings of tracks that eventually made their way to the debut album, Get It While It’s Hot. Personally, I find demo recordings to be a fascinating listen to discover how much a song did, or did not, change. Available here.

Tower Defense - “Not Safe”

Recorded as part of the Stay Inside sessions, this b-side didn’t make the final album but it’s a great dose of Tower Defense while we wait for their next album (soon!). All proceeds go to The 5 Spot Community Fund in Nashville. Available here.

Apollo Up! - Ready Rock Sign: Demos 2002-2003

Recorded way back in 2002, these are the earliest recordings of the band, captured with a single Radio Shack mic plugged into a Tascam cassette 4-track. Even with such rudimentary recording tech, it’s worth a listen. Available here.

We’ll be releasing more Bandcamp exclusives over the coming months as they waive their fees. Some of this music will make its way to Spotify but not all of it! So, if you’re intrigued, get it now.
