\"Pixels\"
I really should be saving this for tomorrow\'s Friday videos but it\'s one of those things that once you\'ve seen it, you know you need to share it right away. The short video Pixels by Patrick Jean is a great little expedition of 8-bit creatures invading NYC and transforming the world through their conquests. Despite the video quality being crap, I\'d really recommend watching this version first as the music seems to be a bit more engaging (I\'m sure it\'s just a bootleg music video, but it works). Then head over to here and watch it in higher quality.

Six Friday Videos
Only six videos in the playlist this week but there\'s some bonus stuff below worth visiting.
  • Gurl, That\'s A Bootyhole! - disgusting and hilarious.
  • iPad - Parry Grip - Parry Grip does a ton of videos consisting of Internet memes / phenomena set to original hyper-pop songs. It\'s hit or miss but the transition to a Nacho discussion in this video is great.
  • The Thorn in the Heart - new movie from Michel Gondry (new to me) featuring his family. It\'s fascinating to get a little personal insight into one of the film worlds most creative people.
  • Metallica - Enter Sandman (Smooth Jazz Version) - similar in idea to the myriad of terrible redubs out there this one takes it to a better place by just going with the actual song in Smooth Jazz version; but with original vocals. The guitar solos are hilarious.
  • World\'s Shortest Escalator - not a funny video just a funny fact that this even exists.
  • Cabee Cookies - I\'ve seen this before but it\'s been some time and it\'s amazing how terrifyingly weird it still is. It should also be noted that WTF Japan, Seriously!? should be in your bookmarks immediately.
BONUS
  • Wunder Palms - Welcome to the Best Decision of your F\'ing Life! This is so weird but in the best way... also NSFW.
  • \"Caulk\" Butt Enhancements Hospitalize 6 - a tame news video but the story about a motel room surgery some NJ residents have partaken in that involves getting bathroom caulk injected into their rears is absolutely unbelievable in its stupidity. Bathroom Caulk. No way this is legit.
  • Veronica - not a video.. just something you can thank Renaud for.
Have a great weekend.

Seven Friday Videos
Haven\'t had a ton of time to browse this week but there\'s are some quality gems in here. Go watch the playlist or just view the embed above. Here\'s the breakdown:
  • Keyboat Cat Reinvigorated - the music doesn\'t have the same punch as the original but it\'s a helluva tribute. Enjoyed.
  • Mmm... Cake - why are these LOST actors loving Cake so much? I have no idea why this exists but I choose not to question it.
  • The Confused Lamb - yea that\'s right.. it\'s a cute lamb video. How could you not enjoy it?
  • Quentin Tarantino\'s Camera Angel - clapboards, clapboard, clapboards.
  • Handsome Men\'s Club - I rarely watch Jimmy Kimmel but with skits like this, I sort of have to question why. It\'s really quite amusing.
  • Chat Roulette Funny Piano Improv - this is like \"video of the week\" - your parents will be aware of this video and it\'s probably going to be on the Today Show if it hasn\'t been already. Regardless, it IS funny.
  • Andy Richter talks Tonight Show - since Conan isn\'t allowed on TV it\'s interesting to hear Andy speak on the situation. He\'s a little less political about the whole thing than I think Conan would be but it\'s rather interesting none the less.
  • Rock n Roll Wolf - I couldn\'t make it through the full seven minutes but the first two blew my mind. Just the fact that something this nuts even exists, much less gets aired on TV, is a good feeling.
Have a great weekend!!

SXSW 2010

\"SXSW
It\'s that time of year again - SXSW 2010. I\'ve been a few times and hope this year has about the same shenanigans as previous endeavors. It\'s probably not a great idea but this year I\'m going in with no wristband, little to no idea of a schedule and no overwhelming desire to be at any certain place at any certain time. Fortunately I\'m sure others I know will let me know what might be worth diving into.

So, expect few blog posts over the next few days. I\'ll do my best to bring in some Friday videos but I doubt I\'ll be doing much browsing between now and then to make such a thing happen. That is.. unless you leave me some recommendations. Yea, that sounds good - let me know of whatever hilarious videos I\'m missing and what shows I need to be sure not to miss.

Thanks in advance!

Seven Friday Videos
You know the drill. Here\'s the playlist and the breakdown:
  • Hutts and Recreation - I could do without the singing but the edit is spot on perfect with the opening of Parks and Recreation. It\'s dumb but it\'s an enjoyable dumb. Via Falfa.
  • El fin del mundo - this is incredibly entertaining, hilarious and perfect in so many ways. However, it requires that you read along and pay attention - the humor is not served to you on a platter. Pay attention and you will be rewarded. Via WAXY.
  • Cyriak - Cycles - it gets more and more insane as it goes so stick through the entirety. Amazing piece of work.
  • Bill Murray NBA announcement - I\'m sure this is old but I have no idea what\'s going on and it\'s new to me. Bill Murray continues to dominate.
  • Zoobooks! - I\'ve watched this at least 30 times this week.
  • Sex Offender Shuffle - I\'m sure there are any number of parody\'s of the Chicago Bears shuffle video but this is pretty funny; especially as the introductions of each offender keep getting more and more absurd.
  • Raquel Welch Space Dance - I don\'t want to question why this exists but... why does this exist? Is this a legit video for her version of California Dreamin? Is this a Youtube mashup of completely unrelated clips?
Bonus
Star Wars Uncut - Scene 378 - I\'ve no idea how this fits into the overall scope of the Star Wars Uncut project (aren\'t you supposed to re-shoot scenes, not recut existing footage?) but it is so great that it must be visually consumed right away.

Have a great weekend.

Ten Friday Videos
Hit or miss? You decide. Here\'s the playlist and the breakdown....
  • Gary\'s Mattress - most racist commercial ever? More than likely but the man is just trying to sell some mattresses!
  • Power Mix Dance Party 1991 - I don\'t expect anyone to subject themselves to the entire 8+ minutes of this but I think it\'s worth a peek both for the attire and for the actual music. The early 90\'s are now twenty years past and it really shows. Via Paige.
  • Trololololololo - this guy has basically been all over the Interwebs lately and I\'d be remiss if I didn\'t share. You\'ve likely seen it by now but give Mr. Trololololololo a go if you have not.
  • Pink Terror - from Mike Barzman. It\'s sorta like A Glorious Dawn but with way more Stephen Hawking and slowed down violence. Approved.
  • DSi Depth - apparently this is the new rage in Japan and I\'m curious to see more of it. Some faux depth created using the DSi camera abilities.. pretty awesome.
  • Pedigree Dogs at 1000 FPS - slow motion dogs catching treats? Yes please.
  • Zach Galifianakis interviews John Wray - or vice versa. I\'m still not over Zach G\'s interview style.. always a fun little treat.
  • Predators dancing - I think that title says it all. It\'s in need of a better music overdub but the imagery is undeniable.
  • Police Safety - if you are currently producing a safety video of some kind know that, eventually, it will be viewed as hysterical as this. Well, maybe not quite this absurd but it seems that all these safety videos end up being hilariously terrible given enough time.
  • Dog vs Balloons II - methodical killer.
BONUS
  • Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - starts off strong.. ends a bit lackluster.
  • Penguin Books iPad vision - books are dead, long live Book Apps.
  • Gorillaz - Stylo - I guess I don\'t really know the \"story\" of the Gorillaz because they seem to be missing a member and one of them is a robot now. Regardless, it\'s a super well done piece of 3D work.. particularly given how creepy the Gorillaz members themselves look as \"real\" beings.
Have a great weekend!!!

Nine Friday Videos
I went nuts this week.. not sure what you\'ll think of them all but I find myself highly amused by the majority of it. Enjoy the playlist.
  • Crazy Koala Fight - up until seeing this video I considered Koala\'s lovable, cuddly creatures. Now I know they are capable of something far more terrifying. Those noises will haunt me. Via Chad.
  • Your Cat Is Tripping Balls - apparrently Friskies takes your cat into a portal of magical wonderment beyond his wildest dreams.
  • Grande Days - public access TV on youtube is the best combination since peanut butter and chocolate. I think I legitimately love the song. Via Hale.
  • The Saddest Beard in the World - yes, this is an oldie (and also Hale himself) but Whiskerino ends on Sunday. This is appropriate.
  • Hale Tribute 2010 - Falfa pays tribute to the previous video. Spot on.
  • Horse Apples Closeups - deleted scene from Wonder Showzen that will probably make you ill but amuse in the process.
  • Spoon - Written in Reverse - nothing too crazy about this but I\'ve been loving the new Spoon record so much lately that I felt it only appropriate to post this.
  • Subway Pigeon - with enough patience, even a Pigeon can behave himself on public transportation.
  • Attacked by Pelican - yes this is totally America\'s Funniest Home Video style but that mans screams are too amusing not to enjoy.
If that somehow isn\'t enough for you, try your hand at Hoop Dreams or anything from Luke Prior.. some craziness in there.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Nine Friday Videos
Some weeks are better than others.. there\'s a bunch of good stuff this week, so get to watching. Here\'s the playlist breakdown:
  • Mortal Kombat vs Donkey Kong - so so dumb but I find it amusing regardless. The best part is that there are a bunch more - equally ridiculous / dumb.
  • Snowlapse 2010 - I\'m sure you heard that DC got ravaged by snowfall but this video really gives ya some perspective on how it adds up.. literally.
  • T-Shirt War - clever stop motion animation and a lot of t-shirts. A whole lot.
  • Mirror Scare - from the guy that brought you No Signal, here\'s another compilation of cliche mirror scare clips. WAXY reminds us that the best use of this has been done.
  • Kewpie Tarako - Japanese commercials are terrifying. I\'m not sure if it\'s intentional or not but they are.
  • Angela Lansbury Sexy Workout - I dare you to watch the whole thing. I bet you can\'t do it.
  • Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy - a 3 minute TED talk comparing the ridiculous hippie dancer viral video to the broader idea of starting a movement. It may be reaching a bit but it makes some valid points.
  • Bill Murray with Anthony Bourdain - I don\'t usually watch No Reservations but this clip pretty much convinced me that I need to start.
  • Raptor Devours Cheerleader - sometimes, occasionally, sporting events do have things worth watching. This is a fine example.
BONUS
  • Mosquito Killed By a Laser - title says it all. Via Chad.
  • The Funniest Man in the World - I\'ve been a fan of Jay Johnston for a long time, glad to see Street Carnage agrees and is giving him a proper sendup. That spit take video is perfect.
  • Logorama - the Oscar nominated short film.. the whole thing has been floating around for a few days but the preview should whet your whistle properly.
Have a great weekend everyone. Be on the lookout for Fav4 blowing up all over the place!

Slight snafu this afternoon with my site getting exploited / hacked in some way. I guess that's what you get for running a near 10-year old version of Moveable Type to power your blog. Guess who'll be writing some PHP scripts this weekend? This guy! Anyway, enjoy the playlist, albeit a bit paltry this week.
  • Patrick Stewart on Twitter - or, rather, why he's not on Twitter. His love of the iPhone and email is astounding tho.
  • Lasagna Cat Minus Lasagna Cat - as if the original weren't weird enough, the redux without Lasagna Cat is ridiculous.. but sort of perfect in its own way. Especially the soundtrack.
  • The Fountainhead in 5 Seconds - absolute perfection.
  • 30 Rock: Laser Shield - I am sure everyone who reads this site already watches 30 Rock but I've found myself rewatching this scene over and over and over. It's one of their silliest moments but it's hysterical because of the deadpan delivery.
  • Jon Stewart on Bill O'Reilly - not so much "funny" as it is admirable. Jon Stewart is incredibly smart, amusing and pulls no punches when confronted about his opinion on things. It's silly that The Daily Show could be viewed as a source of legitimate news but he really plays no favorites.. he may be left leaning but he is the most "balanced" of them all when it comes to calling out shenanigans.
Bonus Alaska Nanooks 2010 Hockey Intro - how have I not posted this yet? I saw this last week and it is, easily, the most outrageous and entertaining pieces of video work that I've encountered in some time. I absolutely love that this team mascot destroys the Earth as part of his journey to get the crowd hyped. Yet another stub in my "Why I Don't Understand Sports" book... but it is truly epic and worth at least 5 viewings.

Have a great weekend.. hopefully the site stays intact from here on out!

Six Friday Videos
This weeks videos are less insane / obscure and more just enjoyable in their own right. Hope that's alright. Watch them here or in the embed above.
  • We Got that B-Roll! - this is probably old to most people but it's new to me. Hilarious.
  • Exit Through The Gift Shop: A Banksy Film - there's a lot of Shepard Fairey in the trailer but I suppose when no one knows what you look like, you have to feature other people rather than yourself. It's a great trailer and I can't express how much I want to see this.
  • I'm Here - theatrical trailer for a new Spike Jonze short film. It's oddly sponsored by Absolut Vodka but they seem to have a track record with sponsoring weird things so it's not that big of a deal. Looking forward to this finding its way to the Internet in its entirety as well.
  • Adult Swim Offer to Conan O'Brien - today's the last day of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.. Adult Swim offers him a home with them. Ridiculous.
  • LOST: Flight 815 in Real Time - no spoilers here.. just a fan made film compiling all the footage from the various seasons to show what was going down with Oceanic Flight 815 before, during and after it crashed.. in sequential order. Not so much funny as it is a treasure for LOST fans. Via Jeremy.
  • The 100 Cheesiest Movie Quotes of All Time - it's ten minutes long but there are some real doozies in there.
Bonus - watch this.. silly but an entertaining rollercoaster of emotion.

Have a great weekend.

Turns out my work week this week really hampered my ability to churn up vaguely nonsensical / absurd videos.. so the offerings are a bit on the meager side. I've got some additional content below that should tide you over. Playlist and the breakdown:
  • WITI TV-6 - I miss old news show intros. This is epic in so many ways; particularly the music. Via Paige.
  • Cheese Curry - the craziest / most incredible commercial I've ever seen. There's a whole series of them but this one captures the insanity levels the best.
  • French Star Wars Danceoff - yea, awkward Star Wars videos are a dime a dozen but this one struck a chord with me.. I think it's the low budget outfits and the asynchronous synchronized dancing.
  • Gray Gray Loves Ice Cream - I will not apologize for how much of a sucker I am for amusing animal videos. Cat head stuck in an ice cream container is endlessly entertaining, deal with it.
  • Wes Anderson Acceptance Speech - as a Fantastic Mr. Fox character.
  • Poochinski - failed pilot of a cop turned bulldog. Absolutely amazing. Thank you Paul.
Bonus Videos
  • Typophile Film Festival Opening Titles - some hand made type animating via stop motion. Really nice.
  • Tiny Hands - Jon Glaser web shorts featuring himself as a man with tiny baby ands and a load of other great comics (H. Jon Benjamin, David Cross, etc). I've no idea how old this is but it's new to me.
Have a great weekend!

Six Friday Videos
Starting off the new year right with some quality entertainment. Watch the playlist or the embed above..
  • Greenscren Grandmas - the idea behind this is hilarious enough as it is but the noises the two of them make is off the charts. I'm laughing with them, not at them.
  • Dog eats Dan's New Heart - despite never having seen the show I was under the impression that One Tree Hill was a drama. With that in mind, this is probably the funniest thing I've seen from TV in a long long time.
  • Turkish Star Wars Training Montage - At first I thought this was just a parody having nothing to do with Turkey or Star Wars.. but then I verified the existence of it with this. The music is an overdub but the montage is real. Very very real.
  • Incredible Tape Measure Tricks - yes, they're fake but they're well done and entertaining enough.
  • Atomic Bomb Underwater Explosion - this is almost incomprehensible in terms of the amount of energy being expelled..
  • Jan Pehechan-Ho - courtesy of Mohammed Rafi and KMS, this should be your new soundtrack for the weekend.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Friday Videos (Mid-Week Christmas Edition) - Dec. 23rd, 2009

Six Friday Videos
It's that magical time of year again when the Internet pretty much stalls out entirely for a few weeks and the amount of new content free flowing your way actually subsides to an alarmingly slow level. With that in mind, this will be one of the last posts of the year for me until 2010. There's probably one or two more left in me but maybe not.. we'll see. Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Christmas, a Happy New Year and partakes in some hardcore R&R.

Today's playlist and the breakdown...
  • Nintendo 64 Kid - yes, you've seen it. Yes, you need to see it again. The box scratching is out of control hilarious.
  • Jingle Cats - What Child is This? - sit through the whole thing. No scrubbing through it or skipping, really experience the Jingle Cats! Everything from the looped cat videos, the insanely poor blue screened dog, the almost demonic pitch shifting and the absurdity of the concept in general is just too perfect.
  • Sledding Accident - very AFHV style but I won't deny the appeal of those. Also, I'm fairly sure I've personally done this a load of times.
  • Welsh Corgi Puppies - because your heart needs warming.
  • Fozzie and the Snowman - sadly this cuts off a little prematurely but Muppets make Christmas just right.
  • The Christmas Song - the video is not really something to watch but I was reminded this past weekend how great this song is.
If you're still in need of some Christmas video goodness - be sure to look at last years Friday Videos and BetaMaXmas to fill the void. Oh, and don't forget these tunes that you need in regular rotation.

Merry Christmas!

Six Friday Videos
There are some bonus goods below the list, don't forget to check those out after watching the usual stream.
  • Bullying - no clue what the context of this is but it's so crazy I've watched it a dozen times at least.
  • Visions of Sugar Plums - sort of Christmas-y, very weird and features the Little Superstar song.. approved.
  • The Web for Beginners - A recut / amazing edit of BBC documentary footage about the Internet that was created for this competition about how the web is changing the world. "The web is bigger than a balloon."
  • The Known Universe - not exactly a wacky or funny video but pretty awesomely intense. Apparently this is the "most complete four-dimensional map of the universe." I won't act like I understand how it's four dimensions but it's a captivating piece of work; particularly when you know it's based on real data.
  • Top Ten Quirky Science Tricks for Christmas Parties - some great little tips and tricks for your upcoming holiday adventures.
  • The Christmas Tree - an Internet classic but 110% rewatchable.. over and over. The best.
Bonus: I'll be back next week for a short bit but have a great weekend!

Six Friday Videos
A fairly healthy mix this week. Here's the playlist. Here's the breakdown:
  • Alien vs Predator - roomies! Nice ad campaign in my opinion. But not as absurd as this bike.
  • 25 Years of Oprah Screaming Celebrities Names - stick with it... it's an ebb and flow of amusing to annoying to amusing. A test of wills.
  • Happy in Paraguay - probably one of the best overdubs I've seen in some time. Some NSFW language but worth it to see Picard say "Warp Me To Hallifax!" and it looks totally accurate. So many amazing quotes throughout.
  • ESCP Human Experience - very impressive stop motion.. kept me watching from beginning to end.
  • Fishing Bloopers - blooper reals are never not amusing but add in an extra inherently funny southern'er / redneck vibe and it's gold.
  • Comedy Death-Ray - Do They Know It's Christmas? - to be honest.. not that funny. Really kind of a let down. However, there are a bunch of great comics involved and a few hilarious moments (particularly Rob Huebell's ice coffee moment.. dunno why but that got me).
Have a great weekend!

Five Friday Videos
Slim pickings this week as I'm still in San Francisco and have my head down on work related items.. so not a lot of video browsing time. Regardless, there's some goodness for you.
  • The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret - very NSFW language but if you're a fan of Will Arnett, Spike Jonze and David Cross you need to watch this. Channel 4 in the UK has aired this pilot that I hope gets picked up for a full series. The full episode is pretty phenomenal. You can see more clips here.
  • Rammstein vs Cookie Monster - pretty dumb but amazing how well it works once you hear it in the context of the real song.
  • Funny 911 Calls - this is very America's Funniest Home Videos but that doesn't detract from the enjoyability.
  • Jingle Cats White Christmas - it's that time of year again.. put this on repeat in a co-workers office.
  • Moving Jaw Test - well made but way too weird and ridiculous not to stare at in total bafflement.
Have a great weekend and don't forget to snag my new mix!
