So, I was all prepared to post a
regular compilation of videos today featuring the likes of
Drunk Jeff Goldblum,
Manborg and
10 Hours of Sax Guy when I realized it might be better to post my
2012 Halloween Playlist. Yes, Halloween isn't until next Wednesday but we all know you're going to the parties this weekend and going to just gorge on bite size treats next week, so let's go ahead and get in the spirit now.
- Halloween Preview - Krispy Kreme sets things up for the spookiest season.
- The Long Road - MK12 brings you a grainy, spooky, car escape.
- I Put A Spell On You - the "Screamin'" Jay Hawkins song is pretty unbeatable on its own but add this guys elastic face and you've got perfection in Entertainment.
- Alien: Bolaj Badejo - behind the scenes of Alien, featuring the most equally hysterical and legitimately creepy bit of footage I've encountered in some time.
- Japanese Baby Ogre Kleenex Commercial - yes, you read that title correctly. No, you've never seen a commercial creepier than this. Especially one for Kleenex. I get the chills! This is so weird!!
- Steevil & Carlsbad dancing - there's a lot wrong with this clip. 1) Family Matters. 2) Marionette Masks. 3) Devil Voices. 4) Humiliation of having to perform these dances. This is nightmare fodder at its finest.
- Baby Laugh A Lot's Battery Low - the most perfect, absolutely spot-on, maniacal laugh.
- Lorn - Ghosst(s) - easily the best Halloween video to just leave on repeat for the rest of the season. It has it all.
- Krispy Kreme - Halloween - yea, I'm driving this thing into the ground but I can't get enough. It's good every time.
- The Black Belles - Lies - solid song sung by contemporary witches. What more do you require of your Halloween?
- Bird - my favorite 30 seconds of Halloween. Easy.
Still need more? Get the latest
music mix, view
last year's playlist,
comb the archives or enjoy the
2012 Halloween B-Sides. What else can I give!?
Have a great weekend!

Another Halloween, another Halloween mix for you. This years compilation (the
eighth in the series),
Paralyzed with Fear, does a good job of finding the balance between oppressingly scary atmospheric tunes and lighthearted enjoyment of the holiday. Remember that you can
stream these mixes if you feel so inclined - I know downloading is so passe these days.
If you're in need of more Halloween tunes be sure to see the archive of links at the bottom of the post.

Equal parts design inspiration and pure kitschy enjoyment this repository of
Vintage Halloween Displays from various retail stores is pretty phenomenal. Sometimes it's nice to know that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

There are few things better than browsing photos of vintage Halloween. Plenty of
great art,
creepy kids to take in with a simple Google search. I'm particularly enjoying this collection of
vintage costumes that run the most bizarre gamut of subjects. I was going to link to some of my favorite but they are, honestly, all awesomely weird in some way or another. Costumes back then certainly were a lot craftier than they are
now.

Had a doozie of a night last night at
VHX and a bunch of
quality cohorts. My brain hasn't quite cleared yet so I can't even gauge the quality of this
playlist. Passable? You let me know.
Hopefully I made the cut and you enjoyed.

In a fit of jealousy over
Jeremy reminding me that he somehow manages to finish
his mixes in a timely manner, I finally finished off my latest compilation. Sure, it was intended for release a month ago and still happens to feature two songs from the same artist but what's wrong with that? Nothin! Right?
Regardless, I am happy with the mix and am glad to finally get it out into the world. Enjoy
Summon The Queen.
My yearly Halloween mix will be released soon so you can get in the proper mood for the remainder of the month.

Apologies on the back-to-back video posts but it's Thanksgiving break and I'm only posting once today! Hope you had a good one - be it time with friends, family or just appreciating some time alone. Enjoy the
playlist!
- Bob Ross Feeds a Squirrel - a heartwarming little clip. I imagine Bob Ross could charm any animal with little effort.
- Warriors of Goja - snatched via Kottke this may be one of the craziest things you'll see from the Internet this year. Aside from how absolutely insane the actual act is it's amazing how long it is. Just when you think it can't get any crazier, it goes on and on.
- Community Easter Egg - over the past three years the crew at Community has slowly been working on an Easter Egg in which they summon Beetlejuice. The culmination of this planning happened in this years Halloween episode.. be sure to watch the back window on the third utterance of the name. Brilliant.
- Octopus walks on land - the video itself isn't that exciting, as the walking is pretty slow and awkward but just keep in mind what you're seeing while you're watching this. It's only a matter of time.
- Fields of Gold - I meant to share this last week. I don't want to know if it is intentionally awkward or if it is legitimate practice - I just enjoy it for its weirdness.
- Alpine Coaster - four minutes of some rather intense alpine coasting. I want to do this.

Have a great weekend!

In case some insane viral video hits the Interwebs while I'm flying in airplane en route to Austin, TX just point your browser to
Wimp.com or even
The Daily What to get all caught up. Otherwise, enjoy these
videos.
- Liz Curtis Higgs Intro - remember when everyone had a talk show? We should all miss those times... even if we shouldn't really miss those times.
- Herman Cain: Bad Lip Reading - another massively successful overdub. Before anyone calls foul that I'm harping on Conservatives too much with my enjoyment of these - there is an Obama version but it's, honestly, not as funny.
- Breaking Bad: Perfect Pizza Shot - if you've not seen Season 3 of Breaking Bad you may want to skip this because it is one of the finest moments in television. Perfection.
- Surfer Almost Swallowed By Whale - it really isn't as extreme as the title would have you believe but it is terrifying to think if you were actually there rather than watching a video of actually being there.
- Skinemax - SmashTV put together this massive mix of worthwhile dance / electronic music set to loads of clips of your favorite movies from your childhood. Is it harping on your love of nostalgia? Yes. Is it effective and a joy to watch? You betcha.
- Danger 5 Trailer - I believe Danger 5 is a TV show shown on SBS but it's hard to imagine something so great being a legit show. Keep your eyes peeled for it.. looks awesome.

Have a great weekend!

Given that today is Halloween proper it I would be remiss if I didn't share something relevant for the day. However, I've already posted a
lofty batch of videos,
miscellany and a
bunch of music. So, I will simply implore you to take some time today to run a Google Image Search for
Vintage Halloween - the results run the gamut from classic postcards to slightly terrifying photography to sexy pinups to wacky home decor. It's a journey worth taking; trust me.
Happy Halloween!

You may
recall the work of
Allison Schulnik from that Grizzly Bear video "
Ready, Able." There's something somewhat disgusting about the style of her depictions of various animals and hobos but it's certainly engaging.. and seemingly appropriate for your Halloween browsings.

Halloween Videos!
This collection of
Friday Videos contains some strange and humorous entries on the first half and then slips into music videos appropriate for the season. Enjoy!
- Mad Monster Party Trailer - 1967 stop motion animation greatness. Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolf, Hunchback, Mummy, Dr. Jekyll, The Invisible Man and Phyllis Diller. The skeleton band is the best.
- Woody Woodpecker and Death - Laugh vs Laugh. play on repeat.
- Jack & Max Costume - how about an oddly shaped baby carrying an adult around on his back? Sound like a good costume? No, sounds like a great costume.
- Pumpkin Sexydance - yea, you saw it last week but this isn't a video you can see too many times. Enjoy the ride one more time.
- The Muppets: Carven Der Pumpkin - Some family fun centered around disemboweling a pair of anthropomorphic pumpkins.
- James Earl Jones counts to 10 - hands down the scariest thing you will see all year.
- Skeleton Dance 1929 - When the skeleton emerges from the grave with the two fighting cats you know you're about to be in for a treat.
- Bobby "Boris" Pickett - Monster Rap - you remember The Monster Mash from 1973? Well, this is the lesser known 1980's sequel. Seriously. Not an engaging video but you gotta love a novelty Halloween song.
- Ghost of Stephen Foster - ignore whatever preconceptions you have about Squirrel Nut Zippers and just enjoy this phenomenally animated music video. It's kind of perfect.
- Mistah FAB - Ghost Ride It - shamelessly stolen from Lance, this song is a prime example of repurposing Ghostbusters music for new creations.
- Daft Punk - Prime Time of Your Life - skeletons Everywhere.
Bonus
- Zombies Supercut - a bit gorey for my taste at times but it's appropriate given the subject matter.
- Thriller 8-Bit - it's a visual onslaught but a nice chiptune rendition of a classic.
That's
it. Have a great, safe, weekend!

As a handy summary for you, here's a list of Halloween whosits and whatnots for you to peruse, download and enjoy instead of actually doing any work this Friday. Sure, Halloween itself is on Monday but we all know that you're going to way over it by then.

I'm pretty sure I'd be affectionately drawn to these bone configuration works of
Francois Robert any time of year but stumbling upon them this close to Halloween just makes me enjoy them that much more.
