Head over to Synthopia to listen to (or download) two collections documenting 40 Years of Woman in Electronic Music. The compilations attempt to cover a wide range of time - 1938 to 1982 and hit on a lot of excellent creations. The Clara Rockmore theremin or Wendy Carlos Clockwork Orange pieces are great entry points but I really recommend diving headlong into the whole thing.
