Pretty interesting read here on How Amazon Got a Patent on White Background photography. Much like the War on Terror, the decision came down to a handful of words in the patent application that set it apart from any prior technology.

Much like anything involving the world of patents and technology, it's a frustrating tale of politics and facepalm'ing specifics. But, regardless, it's still interesting.
