George Blood, The Great 78 Project
posted August 9, 2017 #
The Internet Archive has undertaken a new endeavor, The Great 78 Project, in which they aim to digitize as many 78rpm records as they are able to. The first batch of results looks to be nearly 26,000 records courtesy George Blood, L.P. digitization. That's an overwhelming amount of music to parse through and I can only hope someone starts compiling playlists to help grapple with the largess of it all.
In the meantime, just cruise through the listings and click whatever catches your eye. Chop Suey Mambo, Pickin' the Chicken, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas and Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition seem like a good a place to start as any. Or you could go a bit more classic with the likes of Baby, It's Cold Outside, Jeepers Creepers, House of the Rising Sun or Over the Rainbow.
The crackle and static of the recordings may be a bit distracting at first but I find it somewhat charming.
