It's hard to pinpoint a project from Jenny Odell that I like the most. Her art pieces almost always involve some aspect of technology that gives them an extra sheen of cultural relativeness. This Satellite Collections piece sums up her vibe well for me:
Each and every one is worth browsing through, so take the time to do so!
The view from a satellite is not a human one, nor is it one we were ever really meant to see. But it is precisely from this inhuman point of view that we are able to read our own humanity, in all of its tiny, repetitive marks upon the face of the earth. From this view, the lines that make up basketball courts and the scattered blue rectangles of swimming pools become like hieroglyphs that say: people were here. This kind of thinking applies to other projects like Google Floorview or the ever-so-delicate Primer collection.
Each and every one is worth browsing through, so take the time to do so!
