Let's Not Kill The Hamburger Icon Just Yet

posted June 3, 2014 #

Really enjoyed this read from Hamburger Icon and whether or not it is a good thing to use. At the heart of it, it's a writeup about patience and letting things grow to have meaning as much as it is about a distinct design pattern. This is, obviously, great advice. It's difficult to have new things enter the world if you're always looking for ways to prove that they aren't as good as the old thing.
Being a devil's advocate is one thing, but completely dismissing and poopooing an idea is another. If we are to progress or advance with our design standards, our software - then we must be willing to try new things and have some healthy banter with opposing forces.
I love the idea that design doesn't just include aesthetics, function and metrics but that there's something else less tangible involved - conversation, community and growth through implementation.

Maybe that's a bit heady for the main point here but it's still a quality read.
