By now I would assume you've heard about the Sally Davies endeavor, The Happy Meal Project, in which a McDonalds hamburger is left out in the open and refuses to decompose in any way. It seems scary because we assume that burger should fall apart in a matter of days. Serious Eats took it upon themselves to approach the matter scientifically - setting up a control group of hamburgers made from store bought beef and comparing decomposition results. Turns out, any burgers just doesn't mold very rapidly when not contained in a closed space.

I'm no McDonalds zealot but I do think this is a nice counter balance to the type of information we usually receive (and accept as reality) on a regular basis. You know that Meat Goo photo that was floating around for a minute and was, supposedly, what Chicken Nuggets are made of? Guess what, they aren't (though some nuggets are).

Long story short, don't believe everything you read on the Internet.
