Anyone know anything about Clearlake? I keep hearing their song "Almost the Same" on RadioIO and I must admit that I enjoy it. The album any good? Anyone?

"hit me now!"

Woah, the James Brown mugshot is almost as classic as Nick Nolte.. actually they are pretty much tied. Both of them have serious taste in amazing shirts (or is that a bathrobe?).

imarobot / speak the lingo

Check out the site for Speak The Lingo (which won't take long, because it appears that none of the nav actually works) and then check out the IMA Robot site. Similar? I think so. Maybe "inspiration" is the case here, but it's pretty much a blatant rip and it's awesome.

Aireline - EP Release

posted January 28, 2004 #

I'm listening to Aireline on WMTS (with Ryan) and it dawned on me that I have yet to make mention of the Winter Song EP release show this Friday the 30th at Blue Sky Court. The EP sounds great, the packaging has turned out really well, and the band deserves more support than I could possibly give. I will do my best to post a daily reminder (if not more) regarding this show.. if you can attend, you must attend. Thank you.

I've barely scratched the surface of the Vodafone site and I'm already quite impressed. Excellent use of video, amazingly smooth animations, interesting content, and just a top notch site overall. Link via Daniel.

Some beautiful black/white photography over at Shadow and Light. The fullscreen window is fairly annoying but the site navigation makes up for it.

SELF

posted January 27, 2004 #

If you haven't been checking the Self site for their new weekly streaming b-side, go over and check out this weeks treat. It's a song called "Call Me Back" and was written by a Murfreesboro band called Pacific. Definetly my favorite of all the b-sides I've heard so far.

I gotta say, this thing has been clogging up my inbox for the past 48 hours. I've scanned my computer multiple times and it seems that I'm clean, but the multitude of incoming mail entitled "Hi" with a .scr file attached is ridiculous.

pick a candidate

posted January 26, 2004 #

I'm not sure how much I trust the Pick A Candidate online matching system, something about Time-Warner letting me know what's best, but the results (if based on factual data) are pretty interesting. Kucinich and Sharpton are apparently my top choices.. I'm definetly a bit surprised.

Dreamworks

posted January 26, 2004 #

So, anyone know when we find out who was dropped and who was picked up from the recent DreamWorks / Universal merger. My speculation is that more bands will be dropped than will be picked up (which makes sense if you think about it from the labels money-making angle). I'm just curious as to when we will officially know, or if there will be any sort of official statement of who was picked up.

holy crap

Ya know.. I try not to post stuff like this.. but sometimes it's too rich to pass up. Check out the mugshot of Chris Kemp and just try and tell me he doesn't look like the real life Beavis.

pny express - email style

posted January 26, 2004 #

Anyone who reads Gizmodo will probably have already encountered this story about a new style of "Pony Express" that is bringing email to rural parts of Cambodia. While I'm not entirely clear on how it all works, I find it very interesting to see newer and older technologies (and older concepts - i.e. The Pony Express) coming together in such a beneficial way. If the full article is too much for ya, read the blurb here.

Lots of good works, and lots of bad works, at the Hype Gallery. The virtual walkthrough style is pretty interesting way to browse the works.

I didn't know much of anything about the film when I saw Kill Bill, and I plan to try that route again for Kill Bill Vol. 2.. which now has a teaser trailer, viewable here. Enjoy it.

In the time honored tradition of trading one service for another I created a website for a friend of mine in exchange for him building me a nice Mission style coffee table. So I am very pleased to present the carpentry skills and stained glass creations from Ryan Lowe.

old bank robber

posted January 23, 2004 #

Woah, a 92-year-old man in Lubbock, TX has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. AND it's not his first offense, he was put on probabtion when he was 87 for the same thing. Personally, I think this should be one of those times that they just let it slide.. cause hey.. he's 92 and successfully robbed a bank. Kudos.

Jeff showed me Feric a long time ago and I was impressed then, and I'm impressed now. The weird people integration reminds me of Fantastic Planet but the detail in the machines stands well on its own.
