dimension 7

The concept over at Dimension 7 is pretty cool. Choose a logo, then customize the ink color and shirt color to your liking - then they'll ship it out to you.

Courtney Love

posted January 13, 2004 #

The latest incarnation of the Courtney Love site is amazing. That horribly bad 80's style of illustration actually works. Who cares that the Real Media link actually goes to a Windows Media file? Or that the mailing list pop-up has absolutely no styling to it whatsoever (beyond the default Virgin setup)? That drawing more than makes up for it (hell, I even saved it just so I could always remember this gloriously entertaining moment).

fantastic planet

posted January 13, 2004 #

For those of who you are fans of Failure be sure to check out the newly launched fantasticplanet.org. Currently eight bootlegs, two videos, rarities, and an actual attempt to keep this stuff online is available.. there is even a copy of the 1997 Nashville show that I was unable to attend (at least I can finally hear what I missed).

custom art dung

posted January 12, 2004 #

Matt sent me a link to the Cloaca art installation; a machine that is fed twice a day and processes the food to create waste. Definetly bizarre but somewhat fascinating to watch I'm sure. The article also mentions that Wim Delvoye (the artist responsible for all this) has tattooed several pigs and presented them as art pieces.. why is this not getting the negative press that Banksy received when he painted some pigs? Art hypocrites!

creeper lagoon

posted January 12, 2004 #

If you have a hankering for some old Creeper Lagoon you may want to check out this site for loads of pre-Ian musings from Sharky. I've not listened to any of it yet, but the handful of Sharky songs on I Become Small and Go were quite good.. maybe this will be more of the same.

stock photo's

posted January 12, 2004 #

One of my tasks today was to browse through some stock photography sites in search of a specific style of photo. After checking out Veer, Getty Images, and several others I kinda feel like Getty is the only one to really nail it in terms of photography browsing. The loads of categories you are presented with to search for images based on whatever it is that you are currently viewing is super user friendly and hasn't been picked up on by any other site that I've encountered so far. Anyone else have any stock photography experiences they care to share?

firebird plugin

posted January 12, 2004 #

I've been told that this is a great extension for the Mozilla Firebird browser.. but I don't seem to have an application that will open an xpi archive, nor do I have interest in downloading WinZip or WinRar (I have StuffIt and loathe it).

Some hot works from Matt Morgan over at JUST design. Fresh new layout and lots of works to view.

Lost In Translation

posted January 12, 2004 #

I finally caught Lost in Translation this weekend (fortunately due to it's re-release in theatres) and thoroughly enjoyed it. A very thoughtfully shot, very quiet, sparsely dialogued, slow paced film. I'm sure there's not much I can add to any sort of review of the film that hasn't already been said.. but it was a good time. I look forward to Feb. 3rd and it's release on DVD.

Playground Blues

posted January 12, 2004 #

I'm not sure how I got listed as an "essential" read, but somehow I did.. and it helped me stumble across Playground Blues - a very promising looking site for regular visits. The lecture on the LC-A and cross-processing could be quite informative.

I enjoy the works over at tstout. I aspire to create posters of such magnitude one day (that Tenacious D one is fantastic).

not quite the crust argument, but good

posted January 11, 2004 #

While not quite the "crust of a pizza" argument.. it has come to some debate as to whether or not a hoodie is to be considered a "jacket" or rather just a hooded sweatshirt. Personally, I feel that it is a jacket, but can certainly see both sides of the coin.

The Godfather

posted January 9, 2004 #

Chris recommends The GodFather for all your mp3 id3 tag handling needs (and a bit more). Not having used it yet I can't give it my official seal of approval but from the list of features it certainly does look like it has a number of nice features. I'm still using mp3ext for my needs.. simple and to the point.

studio no. 1

I don't think I've seen Studio No. 1 since it launched with actual content. You should instantly recognize Shepard Fairey's style.

Pretty cool webzine focusing on fashion with a bit of music and art over at Pages.

boy machine

posted January 8, 2004 #

Woah, this kid has got to be the coolest in school with a story like that. How the hell did he crawl inside a toy machine with an opening the size of a sheet of paper?! Incredible! Sucks that in the end he didn't actually get a toy...

working for change

If you aren't registered to vote, please please please do so. Presidential primaries are coming up (Feb. 10th in TN) and it would do the whole country alot of good if you'd just spend some time with this form and make sure you're registered!
