I just finished a rousing game of Flash Mini Golf courtesy of Miniclip. Apparently there are lots of distracting, entertaining, well done games here (and probably a slew of crappy ones too). Watch out for that 17th and 18th hole... they are tricky.

The photography of Nicolas Hallbaum is pretty dope.. especially those Pavilion photos (the pics are good, and the place looks very interesting). Crappy that it's a fullscreen site, but it creates a nice sparse backdrop to focus on the photos.

cell shading is the best

posted November 18, 2003 #

It may just be 3D animation shaded in that cellshading style, but it's still cool. Check out the trailer for Bizarre Love Triangle (note that there is some cartoon nudity going on), or the "Duex Pieds" music video - which isn't such a great song, or great storyline to the animation, but it's just a cool style.

The Wurst Gallery has a great show up of custom painted Russian nesting dolls. So many different styles all done really well.. but you gotta give props to Friends With You for really going that extra step. Definetly my favorite.

PS remix FL

Apparently there is a Postal Service remix of "Do You Realize?" on the new Flaming Lips EP Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell. Might make it a worthy purchase. More in interesting releases: +/-, and the TMBG DVD. Haven't seen anything else of notable interest yet.. but I'm sure it's out there.

elbon!

I tried posting this the other day but was informed that the site "wasn't ready for primetime." It appears that it is now, and I'm more than pleased to present ElbonTruk.com. The layout is great, the images accompanying each post is a really nice addition, the RSS feed available to all is key, and the content is superb! Big double open handed enthusiastic thumbs up to Kurt (and Arlo for the coding and such) for the debut of his website.

Cleaning out my Inbox.. discovered that I never checked out the Devil's Web Gallery. It's alot less satanic and alot more about vintage movie posters. Some dope type treatments and overall layout. Love the colors and use of whitespace as well. Oh, and most of them are oddly humorous as well.

Some great posters from Studio 18 Hundred. Nice colors and vector shapes.. and silkscreening is always a pleasure. Link via Chad.

I love the Oscar Mulero website. The "glitched out" style of the site may have been done before but I think it's done really well here. The crazy face in the Bio section is great, and the attention to detail in sound and random animation makes my day.

what about 'Jiffy' ?

Apparently there's a new "trend" in naming babies that involves christening your child after a major brand. Seriously. Check out this article to read all about the examples - like children named Infiniti, Chevy, Rayon, Canon, and even ESPN (yes, there are two unfortunate children out there named after a cable sports network.. I wonder if the sibling will be "ESPN2"). Link via KG.

I've been enjoying the rock stream over at radioIO for awhile now.. but since they currently just surprised the hell out of me by playing Forget Cassettes, I have to give them extra bonus props.

Hey Knoxville residents, go get your Aireline on this Thursday at Patrick Sullivans. And I expect all the Nashville regulars to be out at The Blue Sky Court on Wednesday for the same goodness.

pixel style

posted November 17, 2003 #

FontLab is offering a new program called FontFlasher that allows a user to convert a TrueType font into a "pixel" font, increasing the crispness and legibility of small point sizes in Flash. I guess this would allow you to use a wider range of fonts for small sizes instead of sticking with Arial, Verdana, etc. inside a dynamic textbox. Anyone ever tried this thing out?

Awww, little Jamie has spread his wings. No more freelance work for the man in the suit! Fortunately the man still finds time to make incredible illustrations like this one. Nice style and not half bad resemblance of yours truly.

compliance!

posted November 14, 2003 #

After talking with Arlo a little bit about W3C compliance, and how Mozilla is much more compliant than IE is, I wondered about the next version of IE that Microsoft will inevitably release. If they opt to become more compliant with the standards, they run the risk of making alot of web sites look really bad.. but if they don't opt for more compliance, then they run the risk of alienating themselves from the developer community more than they already have. My theory is that the W3C should maybe adopt some compliancy rules that work along with Microsoft.. just like Bill Gates wants it.

While the album title may be teetering on the edge of extremely lame, the site for the upcoming Beatles disc - Let It Be...Naked is pretty great. I'd venture to say that imagery of The Beatles hasn't quite been put through this style treatment before.. fortunately it works extremely well. And as an added treat, if you do like the style.. there's 138 pages of it.
