Here's some more random links for you: 1) Bjork once again proves she is
nuts.. or at least willing to try something a bit different. 2) David Lynch is also
nuts.. but in more of a "I'm going to try and achieve world peace" kind of way.

I've never claimed to be a big fan of his music, but the
passing of Elliot Smith is definetly something that I can appreciate as a loss to the world of talented singer songwriters.
Eric and I were kinda creeped out that one of his songs was featured in Royal Tenenbaums during a suicide sequence and it seems that he has taken his own life in a similar fashion.

Remember that you must
Destroy All Beauty. Some nice experimentation illustration.. I'm reminded of Donnie Darko, Coldplay, and Warner Bros cartoons by some of the pieces.. odd indeed.

Damn.. another week of good releases.
The Shins,
Her Space Holiday, and it seems alot of places are saying the new
Strokes album is out this week.. but I think it comes out the 28th. Oh well, still good stuff..

Loads of great photography over at
apostrophe.net. The Kenji Toma works had some particularly interesting shots of surgery on shoes, and a great series with ants.

I have a mild, and odd, obsession with random maps. And these
Wall Maps are great. The Internet Map and the Traffic Map are incredible.. works of art created from the development of technology.

Heads up New York - mark your calendars for
Autolux - Nov. 18th, 19th, 20th opening for the White Stripes. Sucks when the opener is way cooler than the headliner I know.. but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Since versions numbers are passe anyway -
Winamp decides to skip version 4 altogether and just go straight for
Winamp5. Supposedly based more on the code for winamp 2.x instead of 3 - so it might actually be decent.

Damn, didn't take them long to put in a
new Burger King in Iraq. I especially love the part where the writer tries to get you to sympathize for the troops because they typically have to eat MRE's, another "cruel inequities of military life." If you join the military, you don't get to complain about not eating Burger King anymore, because you could have simple gotten at a job at BK instead of enrolling. Viva la Capitalism!

First
he spraypaints animals and causes a ruckus, and now he's
breaking into galleries to display his own brand of work. Good ole Banksy.. always reliable. Thanks to Ryan for the linkup.

In an effort to become "Most Random
KNI employee", Kurt has bestowed the following links upon me. Granted, they all have a common theme, but it's an incredible mish-mash of
ridiculous,
disgusting,
amusing,
bizarre,
crazy, and
oh so educational. Kurt, you may have won that title afterall.

Pinpops up. If you're into that sort of thing (I still like the site...) there are new works by Demo, Seven Nine, and several others.

This is like a trainwreck.. you know you should look away and pity the victims, but you're grotesquely drawn to the flames. The same may be true for
this but Crichton's novel adaptations normally do at least "pretty well." It was a decent book....

Color Cue is a pretty amazing device. If I did alot of print work or more integrated design with photography it would be a must have. Reminds me of the device they use at Home Depot to match your color swatches.

In case you missed it,
iTunes for Windows is available now. So far it looks and acts exactly like the Mac version. And just like the Mac version, I probably won't buy anything.
Also, it is now extremely imperative that anyone who makes an mp3 understand the importance of the id3 tag. It's funny to say that your genre is "Blues" when you're a hard rock band, but it doesn't benefit anyone. Mildly descriptive filenames aren't going to cut it anymore.

I officially declare that the term "emo" has absolutely no meaning anymore, and thus, usage of it should stop completely. I mentioned this on the
Silent Uproar message boards but I'm going one step further now and saying noone should use it anymore.
Nick, I also officially call you out for helping push it's over-usage. Postal Service is techno-emo? Motion City Soundtrack? Whatever happened to emo applying to bands like Sunny Day Real Estate? New words must be developed to describe these bands sound - emo doesn't cut it anymore.

Personally I feel like it's detrimental to showcasing the photography, but the illustrations incorporated into the new
Jimmy McGrath site are amazing. Such a range of styles, inspiring integration, playful, and just fun to explore.

A Perfect Circle and
Year Of The Rabbit are both set to release new singles soon. I have heard "Blue" or the "The Outsider" and "Last Defense" were the choices, respectively. Obviously I'm a bit partial here but it seems like "Pet" and "Absent Stars" (again, respectively) would be the better choices for appealing to a mass audience and garnering attention for their albums. Are singles for bands like these even important or just a gigantic gamble / waste of money? Where would they even have their videos played? Certainly not MTV... maybe somewhere in Canada.
