Lots of work today - not much browsing so far. But I will tell you this - if you aren't feeling the whole "graphic designer" or "web developer" angle in life.. and are wondering what you should do, become a plumber. I just paid a guy $40 to come out and estimate that it would cost $360 to make my bathtub stop leaking. I told him I wasn't going to pay that - but I still had to pay him the $40. What a crock.

I went to see
Cremaster 3 last night and aside from being just a
little bit baffled about what exactly was going on, I really liked it. The cinematography was great, the music and sounds were always intriguing (though not always pleasant), and the fact that it was quite perplexing made it that much more interesting. Granted, it was a dialogue-less 3-hr art film epic, but it did make me want to see the other installments in the series.
Sarah described it as the LaChapelle version of David Lynch - a summary that I somewhat agree with (definetly had the brightness and glossy fakeness of LaChapelle in parts, but also leaned towards the gritty workings of Mr. Lynch in parts). Go spend some time at the
Cremaster site and see if you can make heads or tails of what is going on in the films. Oh, and what's up with anything
Masonic ?

benfRank linked to
this montage of redubbed GI Joe PSA's - and then
Taber sent me to
this page. After checking it out and drying my eyes from the laughter, I pass the glorious links on to you. If you just get a few you have to get the carnival, the skier, and the nosebleed. But they are all amazing.

Okay, MTV has their nominees for
Breakthrough Video (you gotta click next a couple times I think) for their upcoming VMA awards - and while I think an MTV award means absolutely nothing, it's always nice to see what they consider breakthrough. Personally, I think the "Go With The Flow" video is a shoe-in - absolutely visually stunning video. However, the rest are either entertaining, well done, or curiously interesting to the eye - so I suppose it's stiff competition. Then again, "The Hell Song" is up for best direction - and that's just laughable.

Jeez, incredible photography at
40H.net. Amazing portraits (
rad) and some really nice concert photography / documentary style stuff as well.

MAILBAG: Interesting
article about the major news networks and their lack of coverage of people who are skeptical of the governments actions. Big shock, eh? Interesting numbers to back up the theory.

It's official. 3-D perspective done with stained glass is nuts. Check out the work of
Nancy Nicholson for some fine fine examples. Link via

You know, the
blackouts in NYC today were pretty creepy but you gotta feel some sympathy for the
insane heat wave in France. 3,000 people dying in 2 weeks time? That's horrible.

Is
Intolerable Cruelty directed by the Coen Bros? Because it's surprising that it's written by them. Aside from the fact that it
has to be a love story, and not just a quirky tale of a divorce and a wacky lawyer it seems almost too straightforward overall for the Brothers Coen. But the dialouge, just in the trailer, was pretty funny so it might actually be quite good.

I really don't want to comment on
this because it really seals the deal on George Lucas being one of the worst decision makers in history. I could rant more but it just makes me heave a heavy sigh and shake my head in disapproval.

Nada Surf and
Rooney are coming to the
Exit In. Not together, but still nice to see that Nashville continues to get some decent acts coming its way. I.E.
Year Of The Rabbit played a big rock show there last night - great musicians, big lights and plenty of predictable rock fog. The songs themselves are still a B, B-, but a good show nonetheless.

Check out what's
coming on tonight for the TechTV show
Unscrewed. Musical guest Rubber Duckie and.. what's this? A Beard Growing Contest?! Ch! That's right..
BC2K3 on TechTV. I know nothing of the piece but I'm kind of excited to see it.

I know it's nerdy, but it's always nice to have a list of
Command Line Utilities at your disposal. Killing system processes via the command prompt isn't something you want to have to do, but it's nice to be able to know how.

I hate it when I visit a site and think to myself "wow, loads of great content.. you gotta remember to come back here and read through all this stuff." But then completely forgot. Such is the case of
Nerve.com. Articles like
this one extolling proper mixtapes by indie "celebrities." Link via

I'd say that the upcoming Jack Black movie "School of Rock" (see trailer
here) looks a wee bit cheesy (okay, quite cheesy) but it's possible that Jack Black may actually somehow pull it off. Link via

I don't care for the shoes or the philosophy behind it (kinda cheesy.. an ad is an ad), but the
mypumas.com site is kinda rad with it's off-kilter line theme that it's got going on.
